Chantal made landfall near Litchfield Beach Sunday morning at around 4:00am as a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph.
Tropical Storm Chantal officially made landfall along Litchfield Beach at 4:00am on Sunday, July 6th. Winds at landfall were measured to be up to 50 mph in the core of the storm.
The latest advisory and forecast track has the storm moving and weakening inland through Sunday morning and afternoon, clearing our area before sunset.
Moving on through the day, the lopsided nature of the storm will mean quick improvement, weather-wise, for the area starting from the Grand Strand and spreading north. This is due to drier air essentially keeping the southern half of the storm nearly rain-free.
By sunrise, many spots along the Grand Strand will likely be quiet with even some sunshine showing.
For now, tropical storm warnings continue for the Grand Strand but they’ll likely be discontinued as Chantal moves deeper inland.
Stay tuned for more updates later today.
