Chido Obi sends message to Joshua Zirkzee after Manchester United clash with Real Sociedad

Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee scored the goal in the team’s 1-1 draw away at Real Sociedad.

Joshua Zirkzee’s strike at Real Sociedad was not the best shot he will ever hit. In the centre of the goal, Alex Remiro should have saved it. But the pace on the strike and swiftness of execution beat the goalkeeper to open to scoring.

It took a very questionable penalty decision to bring the home side back into the game, who were able to escape with a 1-1 draw. It is all to play for at Old Trafford.

The goal was Joshua Zirkzee’s sixth goal of the season for Manchester United, and his first in the Europa League.

Joshua Zirkzee was one of Manchester United’s ‘winners’ from the contest, showing how he is growing into his role on the team in Ruben Amorim’s system.

The Dutchman is becoming a success story for Amorim, in a position he struggled in at first, infamously hooked after 35 minutes in a loss to Newcastle in late December.

An injury to Amad has necessitated the positional switch, and he is starting to put it together, even if there was some questionable goalkeeping for his strike. United will need him to do the same against Old Trafford in the second leg.

Joshua Zirkzee was pleased with his contribution, although said nothing with his post-match message on Instagram, where he posted an image of himself preparing for kick-off.

His United teammates are pleased for him, including two players who missed the tie, Chido Obi and Harry Maguire.

Chido Obi sent a message to Zirkzee writing: “My boy”, while Maguire wrote, “Love it mate,” and Toby Collyer added an applause emoji.

Zirkzee has taken Chido Obi under his wing, and the camaraderie between the pair is evident, and might be seen on the pitch soon.

Chido Obi missed the Manchester United game as he is not registered for the Europa League, a mistake oversight from the club.

But what it does mean is that the teenager will be fresh to take on Arsenal, and potentially follow in Marcus Rashford’s footsteps by scoring his first league goal against the Gunners.
