The Colorado Rockies (4-17) will take a quick jaunt to the Midwest to face the Kansas City Royals (9-14).
Having won their last game against the Washington Nationals, the Rockies will look to put together a winning streak. Colorado’s 4-17 start to the season is their worst start through 21 games in franchise history. (As a comparator, they went 5-16 through 21 games in 2024 and 6-15 through 21 games in 2023.) In addition, they have lost 10-straight road games since March 30, with their only road win of 2025 coming on March 29 against the Tampa Bay Rays.
For the Rockies, Ryan Feltner will pitch. So far this season, he’s earned a 4.82 ERA in 18.2 IP including 17 strikeouts. He has a 1.61 WHIP.
His last outing against the Los Angeles Dodgers (April 15) did not go well. Feltner was in the game for only 2.2 innings, allowing five runs while also issuing a career high six walks, which matches his career his (July 7, 2023, against the New York Yankees).
Also worth noting, opponents have a solid contact percentage of 11.9% against him, the sixth-highest among all pitchers (minimum 75 plate appearances).
Tonight, Feltner will look to get back on track in what will be his first appearance against the Royals.
Meanwhile, the Royals have not had smooth sailing lately. They are coming off a 2-8 road trip, ending Sunday with a 4-3 win in 10 innings at Comerica Park.
Interesting note: LHP Kris Bubic made his return from Tommy John Surgery last July 7 in Colorado against the Rockies. He spent last season working out of the bullpen before returning to the starting rotation in 2025.
Bubic began 2025 by pitching 15.2 innings without allowing an earned run, which was the 6th-longest streak by a starting pitcher in Royals history. However, last week in the Bronx, Bubic did not factor into the decision of Kansas City’s 4-3 loss in the Bronx. In that outing, he allowed 3 runs on 7 hits and 4 walks in 5.1 innings, with 6 strikeouts.
He currently has a 1.88 ERA in 24.0 IP. This includes 27 Ks and a 1.21 WHIP.
Worth noting, the Royals rank last in the Majors with 2.91 runs per game, and have scored 4 runs or fewer in a 21 of 23 games, a number that leads MLB. Whether the Rockies can capitalize, we’ll know soon enough.
