A huge unban wave hitting commander today, the reasoning behind this ban wave is the following:
“When it came to reviewing the banned list and unbanning cards, we felt the cards we unban should meet some or all of these criteria:
Cards that don’t create runaway games or negative play patterns
Cards that have some fond memories associated with them
Cards that can contribute to positive play patterns, enjoyable decks, and/or splashy moments”
Gifts Ungiven reflects heavily on the memories side of things as it was a big enabler on plenty of metagames back when it was standard legal as well Modern Metagame, and bringing it to the commander side of things as it might an overpowering tutor but by a 4 mana instant speed might surprise anyone at the table but the meta around this card is the Illusion of choice whatever you end up choosing might benefit the Ungiven caster and there are plenty of maneuver with the knowledge on the tutor, on the worst side of things the Ungiven caster might find 4 big counterspells or combo pieces so, do not fight the card choice fight the table.
Another of the big news jumpin into the fray is Braids, Cabal Minion loved by all, despite being a mono black card, if you really think about it Braids just spreads hate equally to all you just need to sacrifice a creature, artifact, or land, too bad if you don’t have creatures and your mana sources get hit by this effect, this means fun is hitting the table looking at players trying to get rid of her os sacrificing the right asset to mitigate.
And to reflect no this ban its a healthy message to the format to engage in bringing cards that are no longer overpowered in the format as it has grew immensely.
