The Duke Blue Devils were just over 30 seconds away from a national title game when they held a 67-61 lead over the Houston Cougars in the Final Four.
Over the next 33 seconds, though, the Blue Devils hopes of competing for a national title game evaporated as the Cougars rattled of a 9-0 run to end the game with a 70-67 victory. Duke star Cooper Flagg did his best to keep his team in the game, scoring a game-high 27 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals.
In the end his effort wasn’t enough, but fans still managed to find something good out of the unfortunate ending. Well, fans of the Charlotte Hornets – the favorite to land the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA draft – that is.
One Carolina sports fan resurfaced Flagg’s 4.0 GPA during his lone semester with the Blue Devils.
“And he has a 4.0 GPA?! What can’t Cooper Flagg do??NBA Lottery Gods need to bless the Hornets just one time 🙏,” the account said.
Fans flocked to the comments section to share their take.
“That’s why he so good. ‘If I calculate the Pythagorean theorem at the angle of X and turn 45 degrees I will hit the target at approx. 2seca after the rotation of the elbow at a 90 degree angle,'” joked one fan.
“lol he’s a freshman so he got all A’s for 1 semester?” quipped another.
“That tells you everything you need to know! Not a Duke fan, but nothing but respect for Flagg!” offered a third.
Fans will have to wait and see if Flagg is headed off to the NBA.
