Get that ballroom ready, as Dancing With the Stars has been renewed for season 34. Life & Style breaks down everything we know so far about the season ahead.

Robert Irwin Is the 1st Celebrity Announced to be Competing on Season 34 of ‘DWTS’

Disney made the announcement on April 22, 2025, that the celebrity dance competition is returning and has a familiar name leading all-star lineup, revealing Robert Irwin is the first celebrity cast member.

The wildlife conservationist has talent that runs in his family, as Robert’s sister, Bindi Irwin, won season 21 of DWTS alongside her partner, Derek Hough.

Robert is already in tip-top shape to handle the grueling 12-hour practice sessions followed by the live telecasts. The Australia native fronted an underwear campaign for the brand Bonds, debuting his modeling campaign on April 3, 2025. Robert had washboard abs that highly impressed fans with his shirtless photos. He posted several snapshots taken in between photo sessions on April 5, 2025, showing that no airbrushing was needed for his ripped physique.

Robert Irwin Has Wanted to Compete on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ for Years

The wildlife warrior revealed in January 2022 that he was hoping to get cast on DWTS one day.

“I’d definitely give it a go,” Robert told Entertainment Tonight, turning to Bindi and adding, “I reckon you could give me some tips. I think it’d be a lot of fun.”

Bindi recalled in 2019 how much effort it takes competing on DWTS.

“It’s such a challenge. I don’t think people really know how much work goes on behind the scenes, it’s a huge commitment,” she told The Project about her win in 2015.

The Full Cast of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Season 34 Has Yet to Be Revealed

Disney noted that the full cast of celebrities and pro dancers will be announced at a later time. The company did not reveal when season 34 will premiere, but DWTS has traditionally started airing on ABC in September during its previous seasons.

Who Won ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Season 33?

Robert and the rest of the season 34 cast will have a hard act to follow, as season 33 proved to be so competitive with the incredible talent that evolved.

The Bachelor alum Joey Graziadei ended up taking home the Mirrorball Trophy alongside pro partner Jenna Johnson. They beat Olympic rugby player Ilona Maher and Alan Bersten to come out on top. Both couples were given strong challenges by the remaining finalists, including actress Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong, Olympic gymnast Stephen Nedoroscik and Rylee Arnold, and retired NFL star Danny Amendola and Witney Carson.

Joey later revealed how the competition took a toll on his body, as he ended up losing weight at a rapid rate.

“I definitely got a little too thin quickly,” the reality star revealed in December 2024 while appearing on the “Lightweights Podcast” with Joe Vulpis. Joey explained that his fiancée, Kelsey Anderson, was the one who brought his changing appearance to his attention.

“Initially you’re doing steps like the jive. We lost so much weight during that week because we were just kicking and flicking and doing so much,” he recalled. “Same thing in the samba. You have to move so much in those dances that — Kelsey’s the one that tells you … ‘You’re looking pretty thin.’”

Joey said he realized how quickly he was slimming down when his clothing was no longer fitting properly. “I’m losing a lot of weight and my size 32 pants, I need a 30 all of a sudden it feels like, ‘cause I’m having to buckle it up so tight,” he added.

However, the ABC star loved the overall results of the grueling competition. “If I could do this every day, I would because I would never be out of shape, and it’s amazing,” he gushed.
