An audio is going viral on social media purportedly of Vice President JD Vance where he is heard criticising billionaire Elon Musk and his role in the administration of President Donald Trump. In the audio, the individual, purportedly Vance, says that Musk getting criticized in the media makes the Trump administration look bad. Despite garnering millions of views on X, TikTok and Facebook, the audio remains unverified.
Here’s the audio:
“He’s getting criticized in the media, and he says that he’s helping, and he’s not,” the voice in the audio can be heard saying. “He’s making us look bad. He’s making me look bad.
“And I’ll tell you this, and you wouldn’t like it if I said it, but he’s not even an American,” he continues. “He is from South Africa. It is cosmopolitan.
“There’s this great American leader in a room that has the portraits of some of the greatest men that ever lived in this country, and he has the audacity to act like he is an elected official,” he adds. “I am an elected official. I am the important one. In this situation, not him. So if he wants to tank the economy and his cars, maybe that’s what he deserves.”
Musk, who started off as one of the big-money endorser of President Donald Trump during his election campaign, has become the chief of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) – a department instituted under Trump to cut the federal government’s budget. His approach has sparked nationwide protests, some escalating into violent incidents targeting Tesla properties. Additionally, Trump’s opponents like Senator Bernie Sanders have mobilized large crowds opposing Musk’s initiatives.
Thus far, DOGE has done several federal workforce reductions, resulting in over 100,000 job cuts across various agencies. Notable impacts include the Department of Education’s plan to eliminate nearly 50% of its staff, totaling approximately 1,300 positions. The Social Security Administration has also placed 140 workers from its Civil Rights Office on administrative leave, among others.
