Dodgers on Deck: April 23 at Cubs

The series finale for the Dodgers at the Cubs on Wednesday night in Wrigley Field in Chicago will feature the first planned bullpen game of the season for Los Angeles.

Relief pitching has been a great strength for the Dodgers this year, and the bullpen has gotten plenty of practice, leading the majors in innings pitched. Tony Gonsolin is making another rehab start, Blake Snell not yet ready to return, and other starting options Justin Wrobleski, Landon Knack, and Bobby Miller are unable to be called up yet unless replacing an injured player because they were optioned to Triple-A too recently.

Off days on Monday and Thursday this week also lend itself to a bullpen game, given the built-in rest for relievers surrounding this series in Chicago.

Left-hander Matthew Boyd starts for the Cubs on Wednesday. He had a quality start at Dodger Stadium on April 11, but the three runs he allowed all came in the sixth inning, in the form of a home run by Tommy Edman that provided the only runs of the game. Boyd has allowed two total runs in his other three starts in 2025.

MLB Network will also carry the finale of Dodgers vs. Cubs, though that telecast will be blacked unavailable in local markets.
