Jalen Hurts has already known his importance not just to the Philadelphia Eagles, but the legacy of Black quarterbacks around league history as well.

Hurts recently joined the very short list of so-called “running quarterbacks” to win the Super Bowl. And hs Super Bowl MVP trophy from that blowout win over the Kansas City Chiefs now, to many puts him in a class alone across the league.

And it’s something that Hurts doesn’t take for granted.

Speaking to Men’s Health, Hurts explained just how important his success on the field is for quarterbacks around the league. … and he recognized the legacy of the Black QB in the NFL that he now carries on.

“You hear people talk about Doug Williams, Warren Moon, and Randall Cunningham and their tenures quarterbacking in the NFL, and those are all opportunities to learn from. It’s history,” Hurts said.

Now that Hurts has become a Super Bowl champion, though, the former second-round pick is looking past his success from prior seasons. And that makes him even hungrier for future success.

“It’s hard for me to enjoy certain successes in real time, because I’m in pursuit of something,” Hurts said. “You have to have a constant drive. It has to burn within you to where you don’t want to stop. How can I better myself? How can I evolve? It’s days and nights and years of hard work paying off. Now, what do I have to do the next time around?”

It’s clear Philadelphia’s franchise quarterback is among the best in the NFL after his Super Bowl winning season. If the organization can continue that success, Hurts will continue to climb the all-time list moving forward.
