Earth Day 2025: These events are happening in the Binghamton area

April 22, 2025 marks the 55th anniversary of Earth Day.

The theme for this year is “Our power, Our planet,” to triple clean energy usage by 2030 by focusing on renewable energy like solar and wind power.

Here are a few ways Binghamton plans to raise awareness this Earth Day, from planting seedlings, networking eco-friendly ideas to the simple act of picking up trash.

Earth Day events in the Binghamton area

Earth Day Alchemy! Upcycled Art Workshop: hosted by Broome Creative ReUse, Healthy Lifestyles Coalition and Church in the Wild, the event for children and teens celebrates Earth Day by taking upcycled materials and repurposing them to create seedling jars, artwork and other crafts. 1-3 p.m. April 22, Lee Barta Community Center, 108 Liberty St., Binghamton. Earth Day at CONES: Customers at Cones Ice Cream shop get a free cone with seeds to plant at home. 4-9 p.m. April 22, 63 state Route 369, Port Crane.

Climate Change Quilt: About 30 bed-sized quilts will be displayed April 26 during the Binghamton University Earth Day celebration. The university will also show documentaries about climate change and host a talk from BU Chief Sustainability Officer and Professor Pamela Mischen. A digital version of the quilts will be available for the public to browse.

Earth Fest 2025 Combating Climate Anxiety: The Network for a Sustainable Tomorrow will be hosting a day to highlight the local efforts made in Binghamton to make the world an eco-friendlier place, with food trucks, vendors, face painting, live music, and thrift shopping. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 27, Recreation Park, Beethoven Street and Seminary Avenue, Binghamton.

Sacred Earth Celebration: Church in the Wild will be hosting a spiritual gathering at Sky Lake with nature walks, spring flower scavenger hunt, meditation, grounding exercises, and journaling open to adults and children. 4 p.m. April 27.

NYSDOT clean-up in Binghamton: What to know

New York State Department of Transportation will be participating in a statewide “Trash Blitz” cleanup, with Broome County Transportation workers collecting trash along the intersection of State Street and North Shore Drive in Binghamton. Workers will be outside at 8:30 a.m. April 22 depending on the weather.
