Ed Gale, the actor and stunt performer known for roles in Child’s Play and Howard the Duck, has died. He was 61.
The Bride of Chucky star died Tuesday in hospice care in Los Angeles, according to TMZ, as his niece Kayse Gale confirmed the death in a Facebook post paying tribute to her uncle. A cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
“It is with a heavy heart and a surprisingly light coffin (see what I did there?) that we announce the sudden passing of our uncle Ed Gale has taken his final bow and is now headlining in the afterlife,” started Kayse in the post.
“Ed hitched a ride to California when he was twenty years old, with $41 and a dream, and he never looked back,” she continued, adding that of his more than 130 onscreen credits, his “favorite role was that of the ‘fun uncle.’ His love language was sharing his love of the entertainment industry and the magic of Hollywood with his nieces.”
Kayse wrote, “Ed loved 7 eleven hotdogs with disgusting amounts of ketchup. He enjoyed reminiscing about his glory days DJing at the Plainwell roller rink. He hated Bill Maher for no good reason. He delighted in the slow build up of telling a good story, and cheating at cribbage. He had one hell of a laugh, and he will be missed. Rest in love you cranky bastard. Final arrangements are pending.”
Born with dwarfism on Aug. 23, 1963 in Plainwell, Michigan, Edward Gale made his debut wearing the costume as the titular Marvel character in Howard the Duck (1986), which was voiced by Chip Zien. He’s also known for playing Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) in Child’s Play (1988), Child’s Play 2 (1990) and Bride of Chucky (1998).
