A brace from Luka Jovic fired AC Milan into the Coppa Italia final and ruined the treble hopes of rivals Inter Milan.

Inter’s nightmare week continued after they followed up Sunday’s loss away to Bologna in Serie A with a 3-0 defeat at home to Milan in the second leg of their semi-final encounter.

Goals either side of half-time by Jovic put the visitors in control after a first-leg draw and Tijjani Reijnders wrapped up a 4-1 aggregate win with a third in the 85th minute.

It made it back-to-back defeats for Simeone Inzaghi’s Inter, who lost in stoppage time at Bologna and are levels on points with Napoli at the top of Serie A ahead of next week’s Champions League semi-final first leg with Barcelona.

Milan will discover their Coppa Italia opponent on Thursday when Bologna, already 3-0 up from the first leg, host Empoli.

Real Madrid closed the gap on LaLiga leaders Barcelona back to four points after Arda Guler’s 21st-minute strike earned them a hard-fought 1-0 success at local rivals Getafe.

Carlo Ancelotti made six changes for the fixture and Guler made the most of his opportunity with a fine low strike for his 10th goal for the club.

Fourth-placed Athletic Bilbao – in their last outing before hosting Manchester United in their Europa League semi-final first leg next Thursday – beat Las Palmas 1-0 after Inaki Williams struck the only goal of the match to help them move within three points of Atletico Madrid in third.

Celta Vigo boosted their faint Champions League prospects with a 3-0 thumping of Villarreal, who occupy the final place in the top five.

Eric Bailly’s 37th-minute sending off for Villarreal proved pivotal as goals from Fernando Lopez, Borja Iglesias and a late Iago Aspas spot-kick earned Celta an important three points.

Nahuel Tenaglia’s second-half goal helped Alaves move out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad.

In Wednesday night’s Serie A action, Lazio won an ill-tempered clash at Genoa 2-0 to move up to sixth.

Valentin Castellanos and Boulaye Dia struck for visiting Lazio after Sebastian Otoa had received a 22nd-minute red card, but Reda Belahyane later earned his marching orders with 17 minutes left to ensure both teams finished with 10 men.

Fifth-placed Juventus are level on points with Lazio after they suffered a 1-0 loss at Parma thanks to Mateo Pellegrino’s goal.

Fiorentina remain in contention for European qualification after they fought back to win 2-1 at Cagliari while a first-half goal by Che Adams helped Torino to a 2-0 victory at home to Udinese.
