The Golden State Warriors survived the NBA Play-In Tournament on Tuesday, advancing to face the Houston Rockets in the first round of the NBA playoffs after a 121-116 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies gave the Warriors all they could handle. Despite trailing 67-55 at halftime, Memphis made a furious comeback in the second half. Desmond Bane poured in 30 points, while Ja Morant was limited to 22 after leaving the game temporarily due to an ankle injury scare.

The Grizzlies battled to cut the deficit to 119-116 with 5.4 seconds left in the game and a chance to tie it with a three-pointer from a side out of bounds play.

Bane appeared to get open in the far corner on a play drawn up by Memphis’ interim head coach Tuomas Iisalo. All Santi Aldama had to do was get the ball inbounds to give his teammate a chance to take a shot for the tie.
Instead, he was whistled for a five-second violation, Stephen Curry sunk two free throws and the Grizzlies were relegated to the elimination game of the Play-In Tournament on Friday. Curry finished with 37 points, one shy of Jimmy Butler’s game-high 38.

Fans were left in disbelief by the quick call made by the NBA official to cut the comeback short.
“That’s gotta be one of the quickest 5 second calls I’ve ever seen,” said an X user.
“That was the fastest 5 second call i’ve ever seen lmao,” said another popular post.
“fastest 5 seconds ever,” one user wrote.
“Might be the fastest 5 second call I’ve seen,” said a fan.
Amid the wave of doubt over the officiating, some fans actually timed the play and confirmed that it was the right call, even if it is not a call often seen at the end of games.
In any case, it was a heartbreaking way for the Grizzlies to lose after fighting back to make it a one-possession game at the end.
