CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Former WVIR-TV meteorologist Josh Fitzpatrick is facing criminal charges after being arrested Tuesday in Ohio on a fugitive warrant.
Court records from Gallia County Ohio indicate Fitzpatrick was due in court for an extradition hearing this morning.
According to Albemarle County Police, Fitzpatrick was charged with felony sexual extortion and unlawful creation of image of another.
“Investigators learned that Fitzpatrick had relocated to Ohio shortly after the investigation began,” according to an Albemarle County Police news release. “With the assistance of Ohio law enforcement, Fitzpatrick was arrested on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. He is currently being held in Ohio awaiting extradition to Virginia.”
His next court dates in Virginia will be set once he’s returned to the Commonwealth.
Meanwhile investigators continue to look for any other potential victims in this case.
“The investigation has led detectives to believe that there may be additional victims,” according to the Albemarle Police news release.
Albemarle police encourage anyone who may have had an encounter with Fitzpatrick to contact the department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 434-296-5807.
Fitzpatrick left his position with 29News in early March.
