Austin Metcalf’s final Instagram post, made 27 weeks ago, shows several shots of him during a football game.
“My space,” the caption reads. At the end of the post, a video shows him throwing up a “W” hand signal at the stadium’s jumbotron, celebrating Frisco Memorial High School’s victory in the game. As of Thursday morning, the post had over 1,700 likes and 650 comments from both friends and strangers, wishing for Austin to rest in peace.

Austin, 17, was fatally stabbed Wednesday morning at a Frisco ISD track meet at David Kuykendall Stadium. The Frisco Memorial junior was voted the MVP of the school’s football team and ran track, in addition to having a 4.0 GPA, according to his father.

Another 17-year-old, Karmelo Anthony, has been arrested and faces a charge of murder in Austin’s death, police said. Anthony attends Centennial High School, police said.
Following the fatal stabbing, Austin’s name became a trending topic online as the comments for his final social media posts began filling with comments offering prayers and condolences for the Metcalf family, who started a GoFundMe to raise funds for funeral expenses.
Hope Fellowship Church in Frisco held a prayer vigil for him on Wednesday night.
Jalaal Abdullah, a teammate of Austin’s at Frisco Memorial High, described Austinlf as “a true inspiration” in a post to his Instagram story.
“He always found a way to bring the very best out of everyone, including me,” Jalaal wrote. “I wouldn’t be where I’m at without you.”
Texas state Rep. Jared Patterson, R-Frisco, said he and his wife were “heartbroken over this unspeakable tragedy.”
“Austin Metcalf was among the best of what Frisco ISD had to offer,” Patterson wrote. “I just can’t imagine the hate that was brought to that stadium Wednesday morning, but I pray for peace and love for our community during this time of immeasurable grief.”
Austin’s final X post, made only days before the stabbing, was similarly flooded with comments and likes, reaching over 900,000 views by 10 a.m. Thursday.

“Faith that god got me,” Metcalf wrote, adding a heart emoji, “and my work will pay off.”
“May God be with you and watch over your family and friends right now,” one reply said.
“The Lord will hold you in HIS ALMIGHTY ARMS!” replied another.
