The New York Knicks (43–26) return to Madison Square Garden tonight to face the league-worst Washington Wizards (15–54). After back-to-back losses to San Antonio and Charlotte, the Knicks are looking to regain their footing as they cling to third place in the Eastern Conference.
Washington enters the game mired in a three-game skid and will be playing the second half of a back-to-back. Jordan Poole remains their most consistent scorer, averaging 20.4 points per game, but the Wizards are rated league-worst for offensive and net ratings.
The last game between the Knicks and Wizards was on December 30, 2024, when New York 126-106. Karl-Anthony Towns dropped 32 points, while Josh Hart added a 15-point, 10-rebound double-double. New York had 34 assists in the game. Jonas Valančiūnas scored 22 points and nine boards for the losers.
The Wiz lost 120-105 yesterday to the Orlando Magic. Their starters tonight should be Poole, Kyshawn George, Justin Champagnie, Khris Middleton, and Alex Sarr. The rookie Sarr has averaged 17.8 points and 7.5 rebounds his last 10 games while shooting 41% from the perimeter.
Prediction
ESPN.com favors the Knicks by 86%. Maybe they didn’t see the last two games? Despite their recent dip, New York has dominated this matchup, winning nine of their last ten against Washington and three this season. Tonight presents a golden opportunity to stop the slide, tighten up on both ends, and hold firm in the playoff race. Knicks by +10.
