PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — Residents in the Pacific Northwest could see the aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, tonight. A G3 (strong) Geomagnetic Storm Watch has been issued for Wednesday.

A coronal mass ejection (CME) continues to pass over Earth, NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center said.
CMEs are a release of energy from the sun. They travel across space and impact the Earth’s atmosphere, generating vibrant colors that dance across the sky.
The best chance of seeing the Northern Lights is to be in a dark location away from city lights. You will want to be looking north.
The northern lights are not always visible to the human eye, but using your smartphone or a camera can aid in seeing the celestial light show.
You need to set your camera up with a long exposure for your best chances.
