DALLAS – Texas Game Wardens have arrested a woman linked to the death of an 18-year-old who was struck by a jet ski while kayaking on Grapevine Lake.
Grapevine police says a man who drove the suspect away from the scene has also been arrested.
Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez Arrest
What we know:
Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez Gonzalez, 21, was arrested Tuesday morning at a home in the 4700 block of Kildare Avenue in Oak Cliff.
Police from Grapevine and Dallas, along with Texas Game Wardens and federal agents, surrounded the blue, two-story home around 11 a.m., using drones to look inside the windows.
They ultimately took Gonzalez into custody.
Immigration Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security agents were also part of the massive law enforcement presence when Gonzalez was arrested.
In Gonzalez’s arrest affidavit, it states she is being charged with second-degree felony manslaughter.
Her bond is set at $500,000.
Maikel Coello Perozo arrested
Grapevine Police announced another man, 21-year-old, Maikel Coello Perozo, who is believed to be the driver of a blue Toyota Corolla that fled the scene with Gonzalez, was arrested on Tuesday as well.
Police say Perozo crashed into two cars while trying to help Gonzalez escape from the lake. The two then got out of the car and ran from the scene.
Both were arrested in Dallas.
Perozo is currently facing a charge of an accident involving collision. An additional charge is expected tomorrow.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said both Gonzalez, who is from Venezuela, and Perozo were in the country illegally.
What they’re saying:
“We are thankful for the help of fellow law enforcement officers from the Texas Attorney General’s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Dallas Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations,” the Texas Game Wardens said on social media.
“Ava Moore’s senseless death was caused by an illegal alien who should have never been in our country in the first place. My heart breaks for Ava’s family and friends, and my prayers are with them as they face this tragedy,” said Attorney General Paxton.
Jet Ski Driver Fled Scene
The arrest affadavit suggests the jet ski was traveling at a high rate of speed and in close proximity to swimmers and others. The kayakers had made the decision to paddle away from the area, and were in the process of doing so, when Gonzalez struck the kayak operated by Ava Moore from behind.
It’s reported that bystanders tried to restrain the suspects but the people Gonzalez and Perozo were with guided them to the parking lot where they could get away.
The backstory:
Investigators said two women were on a jet ski that struck 18-year-old Moore near Oak Grove Park on Sunday evening.
Moore was pulled to shore and treated for severe head trauma before being taken to a nearby hospital where she later died.
The passenger on the jet ski remained at the scene and was interviewed by first responders.

Who Was Ava Moore?
What they’re saying:
Family and friends said Moore dreamed of joining the U.S. military. She was just weeks away from heading to basic training.
She graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy Preparatory School on May 19, 2025.
Ke’sha Blanton was Moore’s basketball coach at the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School in Colorado this past season.
“You know, we talked throughout the course of the year that at some point in her career she was going to be a four-star general because she loved it,” said Blanton. “She made those around her better.”
Moore was visiting her parents, who live in North Texas, for Memorial Day weekend.
What they’re saying:
“We lost an exemplary teammate this weekend – Cadet Candidate Ava Moore, whose passion for leadership and service left an impact on everyone she met. Ava’s constant happiness and attitude helped her squadron get through the challenges of the Prep School, and her drive to excel was on display as she sought out leadership positions to improve herself and her team,” wrote U.S. Air Force Academy Superintendent Lt. Gen. Tony Bauernfeind.
Lisa Scrabeck, a witness at the scene, described what she heard and saw when Moore was struck.
“I heard someone in the crowd say, ‘She hit someone.’ And so I automatically turned about to go back toward the water because I was concerned,” Scrabeck said.
Scrabeck was there when a group bulled Moore from the water.
“We just started life-saving measures, checking her pulse at that time,” she said.
Scrabeck also saw the suspect, now believed to be Gonzalez, fleeing the scene.
“I turned around to look at the water and I could see her and the passenger on the jet ski going away from the incident, and they were waving toward their people, and you could tell they were trying to get away.”
