Green Bay Packers NFL Draft 2025: Grade the Packers’ third round

The Green Bay Packers are clearly not going to extend either Christian Watson or Romeo Doubs, two players who are going into contract years in 2025. The team not only drafted Texas receiver Matthew Golden in the first round, but they also selected TCU wide receiver Savion Williams in the third round.

Williams has iffy hands, a product of not playing receiver full-time until recently. He was a college quarterback, and TCU tried various ways to get the ball in his hands — including as a wildcat quarterback. We wrote up a full scouting report on Williams’ skills back in March.

The comparison that Williams will receive the most is to Cordarrell Patterson, a former first-round pick who never really caught on at receiver but became an All-Decade kick returner. At 6’4” and 222 pounds, Williams and Patterson have very similar frames, speed and playing style.

Many Packers fans expected the team to add talent to the defense, considering their holes on the edge, at defensive tackle and at cornerback. Instead, the team has spent all of its top 100 selections on offensive players. I’d give this draft choice a B, because I do like the player in Williams, but I thought the team could have gotten more juice out of the selection by taking one of the edge defenders or nose tackles who were still available at the pick.
