A legendary rock guitarist has been hospitalized after collapsing during soundcheck at a concert.

Carlos Santana postponed Tuesday night’s performance in San Antonio after being taken to an area hospital in an ambulance. According to TMZ, the San Antonio Fire Department said Santana had “a non life-threatening condition” and was transported for treatment “out of an abundance of caution.”

“Mr. Santana was at the venue preparing for tonight’s show when he experienced an event that was determined to be dehydration,” Santana manager Michael Vrionis said in a statement. ”Out of an abundance of caution and the health of Mr. Santana, the decision to postpone the show was the most prudent course of action.”

Santana plans to reschedule the concert and continue the rest of his U.S. tour dates, Vrionis said. He’s next scheduled to perform Wednesday in Sugarland, Texas, and has another 50 shows booked this year.

Santana, 77, has faced several health issues in recent years. He had heart surgery in 2021 and collapsed onstage at a 2022 concert in Detroit due to heat exhaustion and dehydration. Earlier this year, he delayed the start of a Las Vegas residency after suffering a fall at his home.

Santana, the leader of his eponymous band, is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitar player who first rose to fame with his performance at the original Woodstock festival. His hits include “Evil Ways,” “Smooth,” “Soul Sacrifice,” “Black Magic Woman” and “Put Your Lights On.” He most recently released “Sentient,” a compilation featuring collaborations with Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Miles Davis and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, plus three previously unreleased tracks.
