Fans of the hit Broadway show Hamiltonare going wild after original cast member Leslie Odom Jr., who originated the role of Aaron Burr opposite Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s Alexander Hamilton, announced that he would be returning to the musical to reprise his role for a limited-time run.
The big news was announced exclusively by Today, with Odom Jr. telling Savannah Guthrie, “I’ve been invited back by [producer] Jeffrey Seller and Lin and [Thomas Kail] to rejoin the Broadway company for 12 weeks. I’ll be at the Richard Rogers Theatre.”
Odom Jr. took a moment to clarify, “I should say, in the role of Aaron Burr, I’m not switching parts,” before Guthrie commented, “You are going to be in the room where it happens one more time.”
Fans were stunned by the surprising announcement, with comments on Instagram like, “PARDON ME,” “The best news ever!!!! Already got my tickets!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩,” “Hallelujah!” and “This is the peak of my existence.”
One fan immediately tried to get tickets, writing, “Not me fighting in this queue like it’s 10 years ago!!” as someone else declared the news “an answered prayer.”
Other reactions included, “I’m crying,” “Take my money!” and “IM ACTUALLY LOSING IT.”
The actor, who won a Tony Award for his performance in Hamilton, will be back as Burr for a limited 12-week run, from Sept. 9 to Nov. 23. Tickets are on sale now.
