‘He deserves it more than anyone’… Magomed Ankalaev reacts as Carlos Ulberg defeats Jan Blachowicz at UFC London

Carlos Ulberg extended his win streak to eight in a row with a win at UFC London.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion, Jan Blachowicz returned to the Octagon for the first time in two years at UFC London on Saturday when he took on soaring contender, Carlos Ulberg.

In his last fight, Blachowicz was tasked with welcoming Alex Pereira up to the light heavyweight division and unfortunately lost a razor-close split decision to the Brazilian.

Ulberg on the other hand had become a favorite amongst the fanbase because of his eccentric lifestyle outside of fighting and his exciting seven-fight win streak.

Round one between the big light heavyweights played out extremely tentatively, with both fighters extremely wary of the other’s power.

The second five minutes played out extremely similarly as ‘Black Jag’ attempted to showcase his elite kickboxing skills but ‘Polish Power’ caught the Australian with a few big counterstrikes.

The 34-year-old began to dictate the pace of the fight, landing several leg kicks the the front leg of the veteran 42-year-old.

Despite that, neither fighter managed to find the finishing sequence in the second round, both making it back to their stools for the final round.

Although both fighters knew they had to come out in round three and put a stamp on the fight, the first few minutes played out no differently than the first two.

The former 205lb champion attempted to put on some forward pressure during the second half of the round but he found himself getting caught with counter pinches any time he stepped into range.

After 15 passive minutes from both fighters, once the final horn sounded, both fighters stared each other down and screamed in each other’s faces. The judge’s scorecards were needed and Ulberg was awarded the 29-28 win, extending his win streak to eight in a row.

Following the biggest win of his career thus far, Ulberg called for a title shot against Magomed Ankalaev, who recently dethroned Alex Pereira at UFC 313.

“The longest win streak in the light heavyweight division so the only thing that’s left for me is a title shot and that’s all there is,” Ulberg claimed in his post-fight interview.

Despite the Aussie calling for a title shot next, Ankalaev responded to his callout, claiming that Pereira deserves a rematch and that is what will be next for him after revealing the date earlier this week.

“Good win for Carlos but Alex is next. He deserves it more than anyone,” Ankalaev stated.

After an ‘uncharacteristic’ performance from Pereira, Joe Rogan claimed that the Brazilian went into his UFC 313 fight with a broken hand and norovirus, answering some question marks around his performance.
