After finishing Spring Training, the Houston Astros will take the field for the first time on March 27 for the first leg of a three-game series against the New York Mets to get the 2025 campaign started.
If you’re planning to take part in the first game of Astros’ baseball this year, here’s everything you can expect:
The Matchup
The Astros will be hosting the Mets in an AL-vs.-NL matchup between two teams that look pretty different since last fall.
The team said goodbye to franchise legends Justin Verlander, Kyle Tucker and Alex Bregman. In their place, they welcomed new faces like Christian Walker, Isaac Paredes and 22-year-old phenom Cam Smith—who will be making his debut. The Mets, on the other hand, signed slugger Juan Soto to a 15-year contract worth $765 million, and this will be his first regular season action with the team.
The Astros will be starting pitcher Framber Valdez, while the Mets will be starting Clay Holmes. First pitch is scheduled for 3:10 p.m.

Tickets
If you waited until the last minute to think about tickets, have no fear! You can still find tickets on MLB.com for as low as $49. If you’re willing to splurge a little for a view closer to the action, you can find tickets in the lower sections for $150 or somewhere in that ballpark (pun intended).
Street Fest
If you aren’t busy before the first pitch, Street Fest is the place to be! From noon to 3 p.m., the festival takes place right outside of Daikin Park and features live music, yard games, giveaways, food trucks and more. You must have a valid ticket to the Opening Day game on March 27 to attend.
Weather
Houston might face some gnarly weather on Opening Day, with a 50% chance of rain and a possibility for minor flooding, so it might not be a bad idea to bring an umbrella and some rain boots in your car just in case.

Travel and Parking
Traffic is always chaotic around Downtown Houston, and it will likely be even crazier for the first game of the season. It would be smart to get away a few minutes early to make sure you don’t miss the first pitch. For parking, one option is the Star Garage at 703 Fannin St., which will run you around $20 and is roughly a 12-minute walk from the stadium.
