Heat’s Tyler Herro ruled out Saturday against the Bucks with thigh contusion

MIAMI — Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro was ruled out for Saturday night’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks due to a right thigh contusion.

It is the fourth game Herro has missed this season, with the Heat losing in his three previous absences.

Herro said last week he went into the season with a goal of missing no more than four games this season.

Herro’s absence comes with Andrew Wiggins remaining out due to a hamstring issue that now has had him sidelined for more than a week.

In addition to being without Herro and Wiggins, the Heat also on Saturday night against the Milwaukee Bucks were without Nikola Jovic (broken hand), Dru Smith (Achilles surgery) and Kevin Love (personal reasons).

The Heat next play Monday night at home against the Philadelphia 76ers, with their regular-season schedule concluding from there with road games against the Chicago Bulls and New Orleans and then their regular-season finale on April 13 against the visiting Washington Wizards.

The Heat already are locked into the play-in round for the third consecutive season.

Herro was injured during a fast break in Thursday night’s home loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, playing through to the finish.

“He was doing as much treatment as he could,” coach Erik Spoelstra said Saturday, with Herro ruled out about 90 minutes before tip-off. “It was on that fast break. He had a contusion there. We’ll treat him from day to day.’

After appearing in only 42 games last season, Herro said this past week, “For my first time in my career, I’ve played 70 games and it’s been a goal of mine my entire career to play as many games as possible.”

He missed the Jan. 21 home loss to the Portland Trail Blazers due to groin tightness. He missed the Feb. 10 home loss to the Celtics with the stomach virus that seemingly later sidelined just about everyone else in the locker room. And he missed the March 5 road loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers with a severe cold.

Each time he was back the next game. Countless other times he surfaced on the Heat report and played on.
