COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Tuesday afternoon’s storm snapped a large tree in the University District of Columbus, which caused downed power lines and damaged a car.
Columbus Weather: Severe thunderstorm watch in effect
City and AEP Ohio crews spent hours working along Northwood Avenue off North High Street, cleaning up the broken tree and fixing power lines and a utility pole.
“I pulled down here, and that tree was down, and I went around the block and then backed into a parking spot down the road,” said Lance Robinson. “Luckily, I got here before they closed off all the roads.”
The tree badly damaged a car by breaking its windshield, denting it, and caving in the roof.
“I feel bad for them though I really do, because that sucks,” Robinson said.
Robinson’s apartment overlooks where the snapped pieces of the tree fell.
“Lucky I didn’t park there,” he said. “I usually park on the other side of where that car got hit.”
