Any way you slice it, the Dallas Mavericks had a rollercoaster 2024-2025 season.
Coming off an NBA Finals appearance, the team looked like a contender at times during the season before a devastating injury crisis sent things off the rails. And who can forget the trade that changed everything?
The Mavs eventually made it into the play-in tournament with a losing record, defeating the Sacramento Kings in the 9-10 game before falling to the Memphis Grizzlies and missing the playoffs.
With the chaos of last season behind them, here’s a look at the contract situation for Mavericks players who could be on the move, per Spotrac.com:

Kyrie Irving (player option)
Irving, 33, has a player option for the final year of the three-year extension he signed with the Mavericks in 2023. Should he accept the option, he’d be making over $43 million in 2025-26.
Irving is a key part of Dallas’ plans going forward, but he’ll have to recover from a torn ACL suffered in March. The nine-time All-Star averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists before the injury derailed his campaign.
Dwight Powell (player option)
Powell is the longest-tenured Maverick on the roster. Like Irving, Powell has a player option for the 2025-26 season. If he accepts the option, the center will make $4 million next year.
Powell, 33, has been in Dallas since 2014. He averaged 2.1 points, 2.1 rebounds and one assists in the regular season. With players like Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford under contract, Powell would give Dallas some veteran depth at center, should he choose to return.

Dante Exum (free agent)
Exum will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. While his impact has been felt on both sides of the floor, Exum has also battled various injuries during his Dallas stint. He returned late in the regular season after being sidelined in March by a left hand fracture.
Exum averaged 8.7 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists during the regular season. When healthy, Exum can give teams a boost off the bench. With Irving already sidelined, Dallas will have to consider if Exum can fill a needed role on its roster.
Spencer Dinwiddie (free agent)
Initially a bench contributor when he signed with Dallas last offseason, Dinwiddie saw his playing time increase after the Luka Doncic trade. Dinwiddie is slated to hit the market as an unrestricted free agent.
Dinwiddie appeared in 79 games during the regular season, averaging 11 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists. While he played a key role late in the regular season, the guard didn’t get many on-court looks during Dallas’ play-in games. Could Dinwiddie return for another Mavericks stint?
Brandon Williams (free agent)
Williams was one of a few players to stand out with the Mavericks on a two-way contract. The Mavericks liked what they saw from Williams, converting his deal to a standard contract in April.
According to Spotrac, Williams will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. Williams appeared in 33 games during the regular season, averaging 8.3 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists. It’ll be interesting to see what Williams can do with an expanded opportunity in the NBA.
Kai Jones (free agent)
Jones joined the Mavericks on a two-way deal in March. He saw plenty of playing time as Dallas battled a few injuries in its frontcourt.
Jones will be a restricted free agent this offseason. He averaged 11.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in the 12 regular-season games with Dallas.
Kessler Edwards (free agent)
Edwards was another key contributor on a two-way deal. When Dallas struggled through various injuries at center, Edwards became the player they turned to at the five spot.
He appeared in 40 games during the regular season, averaging 4.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.1 assists. Like Jones, Edwards will be a restricted free agent this offseason.
