Another week, another signature event. Fresh off Rory McIlroy’s historic victory at the Masters, the game’s best players are in South Carolina for the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links. McIlroy is not in the field, however, but World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is and, oh, by the way, is also the defending champion.

Last week at Augusta National, Scheffler finished fourth, his fourth top-10 finish of the season, although there have been no victories. Justin Rose, fresh off the playoff loss to McIlroy at the Masters, returns after making 10 birdies during the final round.

Other top 10 players in the world: Xander Schauffele (3), Collin Morikawa (4), Ludvig Aberg (5), Russell Henley (7), Justin Thomas (8), Viktor Hovland (9) and Maverick McNealy (10). They’ll all be playing for the $20 million purse, with the winner taking home $3.6 million.

It’s one of those weeks where the sponsor exemptions have as much star power as most of the rest of the field. Rickie Fowler and Jordan Spieth fit that bill. Fowler is making his ninth start at the RBC Heritage and Spieth, the 2022 winner, plays as well at Harbour Town as perhaps anywhere else on tour.
