Yahoo Sports’ Jason Fitz and former Big 12 player of the year Marcus Morris Sr. react to the Cougars 62-60 win over the Boilermakers in the Sweet 16 of the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
Who doesn’t love a buzzer beater, a one shining moment ending, and we got it as #1 seed Houston beats Purdue 62 to 60 to go to their third Elite Eight in the last five years, Marcus Morris Senior.
I’m Jason Vitz.
Marcus, everybody’s seeing this, this, the, the last play of the game and inbounds pass.
They find a way to get it back into the inbounds passer, Milos Uzan as he turns around and gets the game-winning bucket with 0.9 seconds left.
It was stunning.
You gave Calvin Sampson 3 seconds to run to play one of the greatest coaches ever, greatest college coaches ever.
Milo Uzan was carrying Houston off down the stretch in a dogfight with the uh two experienced team, veteran teams, uh, but that out of bounds play, man, he was wide open.
Uh, it goes figured that that he got the uh the winning layup cause he carried his Houston offense.
Yeah, and you mentioned two veteran teams.
Let’s not sleep on the fact that Purdue did go to the national championship game last year.
Like we spent so much time talking about UConn’s DNA.
Like, it’s fair to say, hey, Purdue seemed through this whole tournament to be forgotten and every time gave everybody anything they could handle.
Purdue is such a good team, man, veterans.
You could tell in this game when they were down about 10 points that they never did tour, that they stayed together, a lot of leadership, um, a really, really good team, a really, uh, dogfight battle, two really good teams, two well coached teams, and, you know, what else have you thought you was gonna see in this game, but, uh, at the end, man, at the out of bounds play who’s in for the layup pushed him over the top.
So now Houston gets Tennessee, a team that just absolutely walloped Kentucky, right?
Like, again, we get this 1 v2 matchup and it feels like it is one for the ages.
This one is gonna be a dogfight.
I, I am excited to see these two veteran teams, uh, older guys, great coaches.
This one is gonna be a dogfight, man, excited, excited.
Yeah, and yet again, I think the number of times we’ve said, hey, this tournament wasn’t just about the 1 seeds, it’s about the 2 seeds also.
A lot of teams in that national championship conversation.
Houston advances, uh, but now their gift, their reward for advancing is getting a matchup that is going to be absolutely an instant classic.
We’ll see how it plays out in the Elite Eight.
