Paige Bueckers will end her illustrious career at UConn playing in the national championship game.
The Wooden Award finalist helped lift the No. 2 seed Huskies past top overall seed UCLA in a dominant performance in the Final Four of the women’s NCAA Tournament on Friday at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
Friday’s win turned the tables of how last year’s Final Four appearance went for the 6-foot guard out of Hopkins, Minnesota, as Bueckers and Co. will now seek the program’s 12th March Madness title under legendary coach Geno Auriemma.
The presumed No. 1 overall pick in this month’s WNBA draft had been scorching hot for the Huskies entering Friday’s game. Entering Friday, Bueckers has scored a combined 105 points and is averaging 29 points per game this postseason.
Though Bueckers, who was named the Regional 4 Spokane Most Outstanding Player, did not have that type of level performance on Friday vs. the Bruins, she still stuffed the stats sheet for the Huskies.
