How Nottingham Forest beat Manchester United thanks to Anthony Elanga’s brilliant early solo goal

One of the features of Amorim’s post-match interviews I will always praise is his honesty, whether his team have won or lost. He was asked if he was encouraged by the dominant performance of his side despite the defeat.

“Of course, but we need to win games,” he said, “We deserved more, that’s clear. But it was our fault, we need to be better in the final third. We cannot concede in the transition of a set piece. We should have won but, in the end, we’ve lost three points.”

Amorim was then asked what he didn’t like about the goal United conceded.

“Everything, because we know the characteristics of this team,” he added. “One goal can put them in the situation they love with more space for transitions. And we have to score two goals to win a match.

“That is frustrating because it was at the beginning of the game.”
