Karen Read’s highly anticipated second trial officially gets underway Tuesday morning, when the jury of 18 people picked over 10 days is sworn in and the lawyers deliver their opening statements.

Those looking to watch the trial in real time can do so via YouTube livestreams from local TV stations like CBS News Boston, WCVB, NBC10 Boston and Boston 25 News. National outlets like Court TV will also be live-streaming court proceedings each day.

The trial will start around 9 a.m. each day. It’s expected to go six to eight weeks.

MassLive’s coverage will include live updates and stories on key moments from the trial.

Read, 45, is charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident causing death in connection with the death of her boyfriend, Boston Police officer John O’Keefe on Jan. 29, 2022.

Prosecutors say she intentionally backed her SUV into O’Keefe in a drunken rage amid turmoil in their relationship, then left him to die in the snow outside the Canton home of a fellow Boston police officer. Her defense claims she is being framed and those inside the home are responsible for O’Keefe’s death.

Read’s first trial ended in July 2024 in a mistrial when the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict after days of deliberation.

Since the mistrial, Read has pursued a series of appeals on double-jeopardy grounds. Her appellate fight has landed in the U.S. Supreme Court. The nation’s highest court will discuss whether to take up her petition at a conference on April 25.
