Is Fortnite down right now? It was the case but as of a few minutes ago, the problem has been fixed. Users had been complaining that Fortnite servers were responding, holding them back from making their most of the game’s latest OG Chapter 1 Season 3 update. The Discovery game modes tab that give players access to the actual game were broken and unresponsive, making it impossible to actually play the game.
It’s always upsetting to see game servers crash and hold up the in-game experience, but it’s even worse when the problem occurs over a weekend. The Epic Game server status report showed that the team was actively working on restoring the game to full functionality so it was reassuring to see the problem being addressed.
Are Fortnite servers Down? Not Any More!
As of March 29, 1 AM PT, Fortnite was still down but the problem has been fixed now. The Fortnite team acknowledged the issue over 5 hours ago, stating that it was working to “fix an issue where players are unable to matchmake or select games in the lobby.” About an hour ago, an update was provided stating that the devs were still working to bring matchmaking back online for affected players.
Downdetector shows the Fortnite server status complaints peaked at around 11,238 reports earlier. The number of complaints have declined since, but the problems persisted for a while. There were scheduled maintenance breaks right now, so it wasn’t a planned server disconnection.

The fall in player count during the outage is probably harder on players than it is on Epic Games, as Fortnite always bounces back with its player numbers.
What Else Do We Know Other than the Fortnite Server Status?
If you’re unable to play Fortnite right now, you’re not alone. If you’re frustrated about falling behind on the competitions and tournaments, the OCE Division Cup Final has been rescheduled to a later date that has not been announced yet.
You might get excited to see your game launch up when you test your own connection to the game, but the problem isn’t in opening the launcher but selecting the game mode. You can still navigate through the menus and visit the shop, but gameplay is where the servers draw the line so check to ensure that you can pick a game mode before getting excited.
There were a few, more minor issues reported after the version update on March 25, such as missing audio on select Creative and UEFN islands and increased server tick rate experienced across Creative and UEFN islands causing unusual activity. These issues never caused the Fortnite server to go down, and were both resolved by March 26.
Where to Check the Fortnite Server Status?
When Fortnite servers are not responding there are some quick ways to check when they will be fully functional again. While it might be frustrating, it doesn’t make too much sense to wait around in the lobby and hope for its return. It’s best to switch your focus to a different game, TV show, or hobby until the Fortnite server status is redeemed.
You can check the Epic Games server status page or find the Fortnite Status Twitter/X page for live updates on the progress being made to fix the problem. As of the most recent update, the server and services are back online.
Another reason to put the frustration to rest? Epic Games will likely hand out a freebie or some form of XP compensation to appease fans once the problem is resolved. It doesn’t necessarily make up for the annoyance of being unable to play something you might have been looking forward to all week, but it is what it is.

Next time, go make yourself a cup of coffee, consider playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows or a more laid-back game like InZOI, and keep your cool until Fortnite is no longer down. Now that its back, you can go make the most of the recent update and look forward to the Mortal Kombat collab.
