A recent report from Protoolreviews claimed that Home Depot would start charging customers for parking at all of its stores nationwide beginning next month. The outlet suggested the move was intended to combat inflation by balancing prices and operational costs.

According to the article, parking fees would vary depending on the location: $2 for two hours in Central Florida and up to $5 for a full day in Los Angeles. It also claimed that customers could avoid the fee by making purchases over $250, which would earn them in-store credit for parking. Additionally, Home Depot Pro Xtra members who spent over $1,000 annually would be eligible for free parking.

The report further alleged that revenue from these parking fees would be reinvested into expanding inventory, upgrading self-checkout systems, and even repairing potholes at northern stores.

The story quickly sparked reactions from customers, with many expressing confusion and frustration over the potential new fee. Social media platforms were flooded with comments, with customers questioning the necessity of such a policy, especially considering Home Depot’s reputation for affordability and convenience.

“Is this an April Fools joke @HomeDepot? Seems like you guys are going to lose business from this move. @Lowes has a chance to really take over here,” a user posted on X.

Home Depot’s Official Response

In response to the growing buzz, Home Depot officially addressed the situation through its verified X account, clarifying, “This is an April Fools’ post from a tool review website. We do not charge for parking.”

The statement left no room for doubt, confirming that the parking fee story was an April Fools’ prank.
