Is ‘SNL’ new tonight? See the full ‘Saturday Night Live’ season 50 schedule

“Saturday Night Live” is taking a brief break.

There won’t be a new episode of “SNL” on Saturday, March 22, but the sketch comedy series will return on Saturday, March 29.

“Anora” star Mikey Madison is set to host on March 29 while Morgan Wallen will serve as the musical guest.

The episode will mark Madison’s “SNL” debut, but Wallen already has a checkered history with the the show. He was pulled from an October 2020 episode after videos circulated online of him partying and breaking SNL’s COVID-19 safety protocols. Jack White filled in as the musical guest in his place.

Wallen apologized for his behavior in an Instagram video at the time.

“I’m not positive for Covid, but my actions this past weekend were pretty shortsighted, and they have obviously affected my longterm goals and my dreams,” he said. “I respect the show’s decision, because I know that I put them in jeopardy and I take ownership for this.”

Wallen was invited back to “SNL” that December. He poked fun at his previous controversy in a sketch titled “Morgan Wallen Party.” Host Jason Bateman played an older version of Wallen traveling back in time to warn him about breaking SNL’s COVID rules.

Bateman joke that “SNL” creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels would never kick Wallen off the show for partying “because he’s a goddamn man,” but the “execs at NBC are gonna force his hand.”

Michaels has spoken publicly about disagreeing with NBC’s decisions regarding “SNL” controversies. During an October 2024 interview with the Wall Street Journal, he recalled being “angry” when Shane Gillis was fired from “SNL” after podcast clips resurfaced of him making racist remarks about Chinese people.

“He said something stupid, but it got blown up into the end of the world,” Michaels said. “I thought, ‘You haven’t seen what we’re going to do, and what I’m going to try to bring out in him, because I thought he was the real thing.‘”

Gillis was invited back to host “SNL” in February 2024 and again earlier this month.

After Wallen and Madison’s “SNL” episode, Jack Black is set to host on Saturday, April 5, with musical guests Elton John and Brandi Carlile. Jon Hamm will host the Saturday, April 12, episode with musical guest Lizzo.
