New information regarding the state of Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Baena’s relationship before his death has emerged. Baena died by suicide on Feb. 3, and Plaza issued a statement with his family calling the loss an “unimaginable tragedy.”

According to People on March 19, the newly released medical examiner’s report reveals that Plaza and Baena had been separated before his death.

People reported that according to the medical examiner’s report, Baena and Plaza separated in Sep. 2024. The following month, Plaza reached out to a friend to “perform a wellness check on her husband” due to “concerning remarks” she received from him.

After the wellness check, People detailed that per the medical examiner’s report, Baena began therapy. The medical examiner’s report revealed that the last communication between Baena and Plaza before his death was a text message he sent her that morning, according to People.

Baena was found in his home that day by his dog walker, TMZ reported after reviewing the medical examiner’s report. The dog walker arrived at his home in Los Angeles at her usual time and heard loud music playing in the house.

The dog walker felt that was unusual, and after she entered the home, she found Baena.

According to TMZ, Plaza moved to New York in September 2024, around the same time the couple separated.

In addition, TMZ reported, the medical examiner’s report indicated no alcohol or drugs were found in Baena’s system or at the home after his death. The media outlet added that the report revealed Baena did not leave a suicide note, either.
