Josep Martinez will replace Yann Sommer between the sticks in tonight’s Coppa Italia clash between AC Milan and Inter Milan.

According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, the Spaniard will return to the starting XI for the first time since early March.

Yann Sommer has been Inter’s first-choice goalkeeper since arriving from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023.

Despite his age, he has proved a reliable option in goal, cementing his place as an indispensable first-team star.

Indeed, the 36-year-old has been in red-hot form, most recently salvaging Inter in a 2-1 win against Udinese.

Simone Inzaghi has frequently used Martinez in cup games.

The ex-Genoa stopper was in the starting XI against Lazio and Udinese in both Coppa Italia outings this season.

More importantly, he kept a clean sheet each time.

Furthermore, he deputized for Sommer during the Swiss veteran’s absence due to thumb surgery earlier this year.

Therefore, Inzaghi trusts Martinez to step up once again and deliver in this crucial derby clash.
