Kevin De Bruyne set for statue when he leaves Man City at end of season

Manchester City are expected to erect a statue of Kevin De Bruyne outside the Etihad Stadium after he announced that he would be departing the club after ten glorious seasons.

City said that the club planned to “deliver a fitting tribute” to their 33-year-old captain, who has played an instrumental role in the most successful period in the club’s history.

De Bruyne decided to leave City after failing to receive an offer to extend his £400,000-a-week contract beyond June 30.

Pep Guardiola, who has lined up Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen as a possible replacement, said that De Bruyne deserved to be immortalised with a statue, just like other club legends such as David Silva, Vincent Kompany and Sergio Agüero, outside City’s stadium.

Wirtz played a key role in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga triumph last season
