UPDATE, 6:04 P.M.- Franklin County Magistrate Sherry Sebastian says that she is told the information posted by Carrollton officials does not include Frankfort.
According to Sebastian, Franklin County officials have told her that outflow measurements from Dix Dam have been factored into the numbers released by weather services.
Franklin County Emergency Management Director Ray Kinney says the state weather service has not detected a severe rise in water levels, but could not speak to the opening of floodgates at Dix Dam.
Franklin County Judge Executive Michael Mueller also posted a clarification on his Facebook page, saying that the opening of the floodgates was intentional and based on calculations that remain accurate.
ORIGINAL STORY: Carroll County officials have ordered mandatory evacuations in the county after what they say was an unintentional release of flood gates.
In a release posted on Facebook, residents of Prestonville, Greensbottom, Happy Hollow, Blue Lick, Lock Number 1 Road and Lower Mason Street are all under mandatory evacuation.
“There has been a release at Dix Dam that is drastically impacting down stream areas,” the release read. “All we know for sure is this is going to impact our area in a major way.”
Carrollton Mayor Robb Adams also went live on Facebook to discuss the release around 3 p.m. Sunday.
“I normally try not to spook you,” Adams said. “As of noon today is when we got word from the State Emergency Management out of Frankfort… that 10 gates at Dick’s Dam were accidentally opened.”
The mayor said that he does not have any further information about why the gates were opened or who opened the gates, but confirmed that they were not closed as of the time of the livestream.
City Hall will also be closed on April 7 as it is being used for an emergency operation center.
