A legend tied to the band Bon Jovi has died at age 66. However, it’s not a member of the band.
The obituary for Ioannis Vasilopoulos says that he died on April 7, 2025.
Vasilopoulos’s death led some people to erroneously fear that Jon Bon Jovi had died when the term “Bon Jovi dead” trended on social media, but he is still alive.
“It’s real Bon Jovi is dead???” one concerned fan wrote on X on April 11, 2025, but, no, Bon Jovi is not dead. The trend continued on April 16, with fans expressing concerns about Bon Jovi.
Vasilopoulos designed a famous album cover for the band.
“We announce with heavy hearts the passing of Ioannis, our beloved artist, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend, who has left us for the great beyond. We find comfort knowing that Ioannis is reunited with his father, mother and other beloved family and friends. The outpouring of love for Ioannis and his work is also a great comfort,” the obituary reads.

“While he was still in college, he painted and designed his first record cover then art directed his first MTV music video for the group Art in America (Sony Records). It would be an MTV video breakout in 1983,” it continues. “The cover would later be featured in the book ‘1000 Record Covers’ by Michael Ochs as one of the best covers of the 80’s in a collection that spans forty years. Ioannis work also produced the book ‘Fade to Black’ he co-created with Martin Popoff and ‘Get the Led Out’ a book about Led Zeppelin, written by Denny Somach with a forward by Carol Miller and artwork by Ioannis.”
He worked for many famous acts, according to his obituary.
“Current and past clients include Universal Music, Sony Music, Starz, IFC Films, EMI, Virgin Records, Tribune, XM Satellite radio, and scores of classic rock stations. Ioannis also has designed over 350 record covers, singles and merchandise , for such groups as Deep Purple, Allman Brothers, Bon Jovi, Uriah Heep, Styx, Blue Oyster Cult, Dream Theater, King Crimson, Bob Weir, Starship, Yngwie Malmsteen, VoiVod, Biohazard, Sepultura, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Fates Warning, Quiet Riot, Dokken, Johnny Winter, Extreme, UFO, Overkill, The Tubes, Eddie Money, Jon Anderson (YES), Warrant, Dokken, Slaughter, Michael Bolton, Skid Row, Bang Tango and many others,” the obit says.
