LEGO Minecraft team will need to reinvent their best build

One of a few announcements in Minecraft Live for March 2025 presents the LEGO Minecraft team with an interesting challenge next year.

The new 21273 The Ghast Balloon Village Attack features the biggest and most accurate LEGO Minecraft Ghast model to date, despite being based on the film, and in our review, we discussed the accuracy and perfection of this model. Not one month after its release though, the Minecraft game team presented the LEGO Minecraft designers with a challenging adaptation to the usual Ghast.

Through both of these builds, the LEGO Minecraft design team have managed to perfect the Ghast, improving on the original design from 21122 The Nether Fortress tenfold. Thanks to the latest Minecraft reveals at the March 2025 Minecraft Live event, they won’t be able to take a break when it comes to the LEGO Ghast though.

One of a few major reveals for the game at the event has confirmed the introduction of a friendly Ghast variant that you’ll need to raise from a Dried Ghast block to a Ghastling creature until it becomes a Happy Ghast that won’t be shooting fireballs at you.

The most notable announcement regarding this new Ghast variant is that you’ll be able to place a harness on and ride it with up to three friends. The design for the harness (which appears to come in several colours, despite only a blue version being shown) has goggles that fold down to cover the eyes and an extra layer of pixels on top of a standard Ghast design, but with a smile.

LEGO Minecraft has always been reliable in bringing the latest in-game content to the theme and so quickly after perfecting the LEGO Ghast in 21273 The Ghast Balloon Village Attack, the theme’s designers likely have another challenge ahead of them as they try to find a way to bring the Happy Ghast to the theme.

Looking at the release of armadillos in-game and their first appearance in 21269 The Armadillo Mine Expedition, the Happy Ghast may appear in sets as early as 2026, but that’s only speculation on our part.

The play possibilities that a ridable Ghast (which can seat up to four minifigures) presents have to be tempting to the LEGO Minecraft team, but currently nothing is confirmed for LEGO Minecraft next year. Here’s what’s confirmed and rumoured for the theme in 2025, in the meantime.

LEGO has been a part of my life ever since I was young. It all started when my brother passed down 7657 AT-ST to me. It’s guided me through my early years, through school and eventually through my degree in journalism. I still have all my collection proudly on display, including my many NINJAGO sets, my favourite of all the LEGO Group’s themes. Outside of Brick Fanatics I am an avid gamer and enjoy a good game of Dungeons & Dragons.
