Heuermann lived at the home with his wife, stepson and daughter.

“That house has not changed in 60 years,” John Parisi, a childhood friend of Heuermann, said.

Rex Heuermann Victims List

A police dog located the remains of Melissa Barthelemy while searching for missing woman Shannan Gilbert in December 2010. Officials then found the remains of Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Megan Waterman and Amber Lynn Costello. The victims have been called the “Gilgo Four.”

Brainard-Barnes, 25, was last seen in 2007. Barthelemy went missing in 2009, while Waterman and Costello went missing the following year.

Heuermann was charged with the murders of Jessica Taylor and Sandra Costilla in June of last year. Remains belonging to Taylor, 20, were found near Gilgo Beach and in Manorville.

Costilla, 28, is Heuermann’s earliest known victim. Her body was found in 1993 in North Sea.

Heuermann was charged with the murder of Valerie Mack in December. Remains belonging to Mack, 24, were found near Gilgo Beach and in Manorville.

Additional remains were found by officials near Gilgo Beach, some of which remain unidentified. Heuermann has not been charged in relation to those victims.

Officials are also investigating whether Heuermann is linked to killings in other jurisdictions.

Brainard-Barnes was bound by a belt stamped with the initials “HM” or “WH.”

The belt was first announced as a potential clue in 2020. It was one of three used to tie Brainard-Barnes’ feet, ankles and legs together.

Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney told Newsday in 2023: “Yes, there was ‘WH’ or ‘HM’ on the belt. The last name is Heuermann. There are ancestors with WH, so assign to that what you will.”

What Happens Next

Heuermann is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. A trial date has not been set yet.
