Maryland senator’s controversial trip to El Salvador angers mother of murdered woman

(WBFF) — Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen’s trip to El Salvador is hitting home for Tammy Nobles.

In an interview with FOX45 News Wednesday, Nobles described how she felt about the trip in one word – angry.

Nobles is a mother outraged over the actions of a senator.

“I never heard anything from (Van Hollen)– no condolences or anything about Kayla,” Nobles said.

Nobles is speaking out after learning about Van Hollen’s sudden trip to El Salvador with hopes to bring back Kilmar Abrego Garcia–the man mistakenly deported from the USA.

“I told (Abrego Garcia’s) wife and his family that I would do everything possible to bring him home,” Van Hollen said in a tweet on X Wednesday.

President Donald Trump’s administration has called Garcia an MS-13 gang member who was in this country illegally–like the man convicted in Nobles’ daughter’s murder.

Nobles is now stunned by Van Hollen’s trip.

“His political priorities are screwed up because he should be concerned with American citizens in Maryland instead of chasing this guy that’s not even here legally,” Nobles said. “These are vicious criminals. MS-13 is a very violent gang who does not care who you are.,” she added.

Nobles’ daughter, 20-year-old Kayla Hamilton, was killed by Walter Martinez, an MS-13 gang member who was in this country illegally from El Salvador.

Martinez was 16 at the time when he sexually assaulted, then strangled Hamilton to death in Harford County. It happened in Aberdeen in July 2022.

In August last year, Martinez was sentenced to 70 years in prison.

Nobles said she never heard from Van Hollen about her daughter’s case during those difficult times.

“He’s more concerned about someone all the way in another country that he flew over there. hopefully, he used his own money for that and not the taxpayers dollars to go chase this man down,” Nobles said.

Ultimately, Van Hollen did meet with El Salvador’s vice president, but was not allowed to talk with Garcia.
