Movie studio Venmos $119 for texting, calling mysterious phone number in marketing stunt

NEW YORK CITY (WKRC) – A movie studio handed out $250,000 in digital payments as part of a marketing stunt to mark the release of a new trailer on Tuesday.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate gave away $250,000 in digital payments to celebrate the official trailer debut of its new movie “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t”.

At some point on Tuesday, the famous digital billboard in Times Square flashed the words “Now You See Me,” along with a phone number and a one-hour countdown.

The words “Text For Magic” appeared above the countdown.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, when the countdown hit zero, the words “Now You Don’t” appeared and those who had participated received a text with a link to the new trailer, as well as $119, courtesy of “The Horsemen,” the group of illusionist which the film revolves around.

“Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” is the third movie in the franchise, which stars Jesse Eisenberg as Atlas, a magician who leads other illusionists to steal from the rich and hand the wealth over to members of the audience.

The new movie is slated for release on November 14, 2025.
