Julia Garner is portending bad news for Earth in the latest trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
On Thursday, April 17, Marvel Studios released a new trailer for the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, which fully incorporates Marvel’s beloved superhero team into the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time in its third big screen iteration.
The trailer begins with a host on a talk show introducing the group — Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing — before teasing the revelation that Sue and Reed are expecting a baby and the mysterious arrival of Garner’s character Silver Surfer, who warns the group of an incoming threat from the god Galactus, who is only shown moving through New York City in a giant shadow and from the bottom of his giant legs.

The movie catches the superhero team “as they face their most daunting challenge yet,” according to an official synopsis. “Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactic and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer. And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.”

Paul Walter Houser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lynne and Sarah Niles also costar in the movie, with Ralph Ineson voicing the villain Galactus. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is directed by Matt Shakman, who previously produced and directed episodes of the MCU’s 2021 Disney+ series WandaVision.

The April 17 trailer is the first to release since Marvel confirmed that The Fantastic Four‘s main cast will also star in next year’s Avengers: Doomsday, which appears to feature a team-up between the franchise’s current Avengers and several members of the 2000s 20th Century Fox X-Men franchise. Robert Downey Jr. will also star in Doomsday as Victor Von Doom/Doctor Doom, a villain most commonly associated with the Fantastic Four. The characters all expect to play a role in Avengers: Secret Wars, currently set for release May 7, 2027, as well.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps lands in theaters July 25.
