NFL Draft 2025 LIVE: Day 1 times, picks, order, analysis & updates from Green Bay

  1. Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner on the Giants drafting Jaxson Dart: “I think this is so much about style. He’s not Josh Allen but think about what [Giants head coach] Brian Daboll did with Josh Allen.
  2. “He wants a quarterback that can move – the designed runs, the movement scheme he likes to have. The second-level throws, which Josh Allen was so good at in Buffalo, is what separated Jaxson Dart. I thought he was the best intermediate thrower of this group of quarterbacks.
  3. “We were wondering if Shedeur Sanders would be the guy but I just think that, what Brian Daboll wants to do style-wise, it more fits Jaxson Dart.”

  6. The Ravens make the right pick so often and they nailed this one. Malaki Starks is a perfect Raven. He fills a big need.
  7. He can play deep with the range to read and react and make plays on the ball. He’s a rare safety and this is unbelievable value.
  8. Safety – Georgia
  9. Malakai Starks finally makes his way out of the green room at Lambeau Field and gets to join up with the Baltimore Ravens.
  10. Starks has great hustle and chasing speed, while also an excellent tackler and by all accounts has strong leadership skills and versatility to operate around the secondary.
  11. Baltimore might have got a bit of a steal with this one.

  14. Nobody questions the talent of James Pearce Jr. He should be a top-10 pick. The reason he lasted was due to widely reported concerns about his level of maturity.
  15. This is a double risk given the Falcons traded away their first rounder next year to make this move.
  16. Edge – Tennessee
  17. Wow, the Falcons come back into the first round to double down on their attempts to add a pass rush in Atlanta with James Pearce joining the earlier first round selection Jalon Walker.
  18. Pearce could have been Atlanta’s first pick back at 15, but Jalon Walker still being on the board was just too good for them to turn down – and with then Pearce remaining undrafted this long they decided to take the plunge.
  19. The Falcons showed last year when drafting Michael Penix after signing Kirk Cousins that they’re not scared to make a splash if they have to – and they’ve gone all-in on defence tonight.
  20. The Atlanta Falcons have traded back into the first round after doing a deal with the Los Angeles Rams.
  21. It’s cost them their first round pick next year though so that’s a big price to pay – they must really like whoever they’re going to call out next.

  24. Jaxson Dart is a Brian Daboll type of quarterback. He’s aggressive with his arm and wants to take shots downfield. He’s athletic enough to make plays with his legs. He just need to learn to pick his moments better and he collapsed in a key game against Florida at the end of last season.
  25. Quarterback – Ole Miss
  26. It is a quarterback, but it’s NOT Shedeur Sanders, and instead the Giants have opted for Jaxson Dart from Mississippi.
  27. Sanders is much more overn ready than Dart in terms of starting in the NFL next season, but the Giants have veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston currently on the roster so there’s no urgent need to start from day one.
  28. They obviously feel there is more upside to Dart.
  29. According to Ian Rapoport, the Philadelphia Eagles’ general manager Howie Roseman is also trying to trade up.
  30. As the Super Bowl winners, the Eagles currently have the final pick of the first round.

  33. Donovan Jackson handled his business last season when he was asked to move to left tackle, highlighting his enormous potential. He’ll be back at left guard in Minnesota and he’s an explosive, exceptional run-blocker who finishes off the Vikings’ O-line rebuild.
  34. The New York Giants have traded up back into the first round!
  35. A ray of hope for Shedeur Sanders?
  36. Big Blue have traded with the Houston Texans and it’s most likely a quarterback on the menu, if not Sanders then maybe Jaxson Dart or Jalen Milroe.
  37. But they really have to come away with a QB from this draft.
  38. Shedeur Sanders’ brother Deion Sanders Jr has retweeted a quote, external by NFL analyst Mel Kiper Jr: “Shedeur Sanders will come back to haunt these organisations that are passing him up.”
  39. Guard – Ohio State
  40. Jackson played at guard and left tackle at Ohio State, but he’s most likely to line up inside for Minnesota next season.

  42. What a genuinely brilliant moment at the draft! For years Green Bay fans have been screaming for a first-round wide receiver, through the Aaron Rodgers years and more recently the Jordan Love times.
  43. And of all times, and of all places to finally do it – the Packers do it in the shadow of their own Lambeau Field stadium in front of thousands of their own fans.
  44. Playing to the crowd? Maybe, but Golden has talent so this is more than just a PR move.
  45. Image source, Getty Images
  46. Look at that suit on the red carpet in Green Bay.
  47. I guess it was just meant to be for Matthew Golden and the Packers.
  48. Rob Staton
  49. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  50. The Packers were long overdue to draft a wide receiver early. Matthew Golden runs crisp, precise routes and has enough speed to be more of a deep threat than he was in college.
  51. Like Emeka Egbuka, he’s also mature and well respected by team-mates.
  52. Wide receiver – Texas
  53. Wow! Packers president Mark Murphy picks this draft on home soil to do what Green Bay fans have been begging for now for years – and draft a wide receiver!
  54. Texas Longhorns speedster Matthew Golden becomes the first wideout selected in the first round by the Packers since 2002.
  55. And the fans go wild!
  56. Plenty of noise in the Lambeau Field car park with the Green Bay Packers on the clock – it’s such a small town that almost all of the population may well be stood by this stage right now…
  57. Image source, Getty Images
  58. At the 2005 draft Aaron Rodgers thought he was going to be the first overall pick – when Alex Smith got the nod from the 49ers Rodgers had to sit and wait as pick after pick was made without his name being called.
  59. Sound familiar?
  60. That’s what is happening to Shedeur Sanders tonight, 20 years later – and he’ll hope his story has as happy an ending as Rodgers, who was picked at 24 by the Green Bay Packers and went on to win a Super Bowl and four MVP awards.

  63. Omarion Hampton is a prototype for the running back position. His frame is perfect, he had so many yards after contact and he’s a complete runner.
  64. Jim Harbaugh wants to run the ball and Hampton is going to have a ton of success in LA.

  49. Jim Harbaugh wants to run the ball and Hampton is going to have a ton of success in LA.
  50. Running back – North Carolina
  51. A bruising running back heading to Los Angeles to join Jim Harbaugh – who just loves to pound that football down the throats off the opposition.
  52. The Chargers have strengthened the offensive line and now Hampton will add another bruising yet speedy rusher to the mix with Najee Harris joining in free agency from Pittsburgh.
  53. Rob Staton
  54. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  55. Defensive tackle was always a viable option for the Steelers given how bad their run defense was last year. Derrick Harmon is quick to get into the backfield and he’s highly disruptive.
  56. Now the question is whether anyone will take Shedeur Sanders tonight.
  57. Defensive tackle – Oregon
  58. What a reaction from the crowd as the Steelers turn down the chance to pick Shedeur Sanders in favour of strengthening that defensive line in Pittsburgh with Derrick Harmon.
  59. Mike Tomlin has always had a decent defence, but the interior was not good last season as they struggled against the run – something they’re looking to fix now.
  60. It still leaves them without a quarterback though, and without a second round pick to get one either, or use as trade capital.
  61. Maybe Tomlin has had a call from Aaron Rodgers we don’t know about?
  62. Image source, Getty Images
  63. Shedeur Sanders has visited the Pittsburgh Steelers during the pre-draft process and seemed to make a positive impression on head coach Mike Tomlin.
  64. “I’ve obviously known his father (Hall of Famer Deion Sanders) for a long time,” said Tomlin. “My first time meeting [Shedeur], and to be quite honest with you, we didn’t talk a whole lot about my relationship with his father.
  65. “It was a normal pre-draft visit to spend time with a young man, to talk ball, to get to know him as an individual, to get to see how he processes and sees the game and how he articulates his football experience. From that standpoint, I was a very normal visit and a very productive one.”
  66. The Steelers need a starting quarterback so could this now be Sanders’ moment?
  67. “I think the things that stood out were evident in his video,” Tomlin added. “There’s a toughness there that doesn’t get talked about enough. There’s a competitive spirit there; it doesn’t get talked about enough.
  68. “I know he’s very talented and made a lot of plays for his university and his team, but the intangible qualities displayed on tape were impressive to me.”

Page 3

  1. NFL reporter Ian Rapoport: “All eyes are now on the Pittsburgh Steelers, with Shedeur Sanders still out there.
  2. “We know he had a good visit, we know he’s still available, we do not know if the Steelers will pick him.
  3. “My understanding is that as of yesterday, they were going back and forth, is the value worth it? There was a split in the room. We will see what decision they make.”

  6. Few players elevated their stock more than Jahdae Barron last season. He jumped off the screen for Texas and seemed to be all over the field. Even as a versatile cornerback, he’s more than prepared to lay a hit in run support.
  7. Cornerback – Texas
  8. The first cornerback off the boards comes with a bit of a ball hawk from the Longhorns who will head to an already elite defence in Denver.
  9. The Broncos had one of the best units in the league last year – including the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year, Pat Surtain, also a cornerback so that secondary will be one to watch next season.
  10. Rob Staton
  11. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  12. Emeka Egbuka is an incredible player and person. He was the main man on a loaded Ohio State roster.
  13. His character is A+ and he will set a tone with his maturity and leadership. I would call this a home run pick by Tampa Bay.
  14. Wide receiver – Ohio State
  15. Image source, Getty Images
  16. The first Ohio State player off the board joins a list of receivers from that school to be taken high up in the draft – although not as high as Marvin Harrison Jr who went fourth last year.
  17. But Egbuka is a talented receiver who can be used in a variety of roles, is a tough runner with ball in hand and also doesn’t mind throwing a block or two either.
  18. And in Tampa Bay he’ll be able to learn from one of the best veteran receivers in the game in Mike Evans.
  19. Rob Staton
  20. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  21. Grey Zabel is one of my favourite players in the draft. He’s explosive, testing at a level comparable to Creed Humphrey and Frank Ragnow. He fills Seattle’s biggest need by far, plugging a huge hole on the interior offensive line.
  22. Guard – North Dakota State
  23. Image source, Getty Images
  24. The versatile offensive linemen is heading up to Seattle as the Seahawks go for an athletic guard who can also operate across a number of spots on the O-line.

  27. If you built a defensive end in a factory he would look like Shemar Stewart. However, he had only 4.5 sacks in college.
  28. I looked at players with his physical profile who succeeded in the NFL and they averaged 24 sacks in college. So this is a dice roll on traits.

  32. Here’s why Nolen was one of Rob Staton’s players to watch tonight.
  33. Ole Miss defensive tackle Walter Nolen could be a top-10 pick tonight. Or he could fall out of the first round altogether.
  34. Scouts rave about his talent and potential. He’s been compared to Eagles star Jalen Carter for his ability to wreck games from the interior. However, there are question marks about his consistency and character.
  35. As a consequence, mock drafters have a hard time placing him in this class. There were games last year, such as against Florida, where he looked unstoppable. Philadelphia took a chance on Carter two years ago.
  36. Edge – Texas A&M
  37. No surprises here either, as one of the worst defences in football is being addressed by the Bengals by bringing in Aggies egde rusher Stewart.
  38. Cincy ranked 25th in points per game allowed and 25th in sacks last season as the defence totally let them down – as Joe Burrow’s offence was explosive but could just not do it all by themselves.
  39. Rob Staton
  40. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  41. Image source, Getty Images
  42. Nobody can deny Walter Nolen’s talent. He’s a potential game-wrecker with twitchy speed and an ideal frame for an interior rusher.
  43. There were a lot of character concerns raised pre-draft. If you manage him correctly, he can be a terror for opponents.
  44. Defensive tackle – Ole Miss
  45. Arizona goes to the interior of their defensive line to spend their first round pick on Walter Nolen.
  46. It was another tough year for the Cards last season, and it’s clear where they want to improve as they also brought back veteran Calais Campbell in free agency.
  47. Linebacker – Georgia
  48. Image source, Getty Images
  49. Jalon Walker spent two years developing in different linebacker roles at Georgia before becoming a regular starter in 2024.
  50. The 21-year-old played more as a pass rusher and enjoyed a breakout season, winning last year’s award for best college linebacker.
  51. At 6ft 1in, Walker is on the smaller side, but has the athleticism and explosiveness to compete on the edge in the NFL.
  52. Rob Staton
  53. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  54. The fear with Jalon Walker is that he’s a tweener. He doesn’t have the length or size to play full-time as a pass-rusher but you don’t want to limit him to playing middle linebacker.
  55. He’s a culture-setter and he has a lot of talent. They just need to figure out what his best role is in their scheme.
  56. Linebacker – Georgia
  57. A big player drops to the Falcons with Jalon Walker fancied to go much higher up in this draft as a superb disruptor on the defence.
  58. It’s a hole they really needed filling as Atlanta had gone all-in on offence the last four years with their first round picks.
  59. Atlanta picked Kyle Pitts, Drake London, Bijan Robinson and that stunner last year with quarterback Michael Penix picked despite handing out $100m to Kirk Cousins.
  60. This year they’ve landed a real dog on defence.
  61. We heard lots about Shedeur Sanders in the build-up, but here’s a shout-out to some of the other quarterbacks who could maybe now be picked ahead of him.
  62. Besides Cam Ward, Jalen Milroe is the only other quarterback at the draft and is thought to have the highest ‘ceiling’ of all the QB prospects. NFL scouts have said he runs the ball better than Lamar Jackson.
  63. Jaxson Dart has a great name for a quarterback and threw for 29 touchdowns and 4,279 passing yards with Ole Miss last season.
  64. And Tyler Shough (pronounced ‘shuck’) seems an interesting character. The 25-year-old has spent seven years in college, earning four degrees, and has just enjoyed his best season yet at Louisville.
  65. The 6ft 5in QB also called himself “white lightning” at the Scouting Combine after clocking 4.63 seconds for the 40-yard dash and celebrated with the crowd in Indianapolis.
  66. Former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner: “Warren is just one of those players who looks comfortable on a football pitch. This is a home run for the Colts.”
  67. Image source, Getty Images
  68. Luckily, Shedeur Sanders is not in Green Bay tonight so he can avoid having the cameras stuck in his face as he slides further down the draft – enduring his own Aaron Rodgers moment.
  69. Rodgers was vying for the number one pick of the 2005 draft but ended up dropping all the way down to 24 where he was picked up by the Packers.
  70. The Steelers look like his last hope of this first round with the 21st pick – it’s hard to see where else he goes if Pittsburgh pass on him.
  71. Jalen Milroe could be their option as more of a running quarterback option as Mike Tomlin opts to get back to historic Steeler football.
  72. Rob Staton
  73. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  74. This is a steal for the Colts. Tyler Warren has every chance to be the focal point for Indianapolis’ offense, much in the way Travis Kelce is for the Chiefs.
  75. He won’t have Patrick Mahomes throwing to him of course but he can be a dominant NFL force.
  76. Tight end – Penn State
  77. Image source, Getty Images
  78. A match-up nightmare with great size and even better hands, Warren was used creatively at Penn State and lined up in a variety of areas, with that versatility a huge asset in a tight end in the NFL.
  79. Warren can win a tough contested catch but also take a quick, short ball and evade tacklers with a speed not often seen in such a big athlete – and that all leads into his big strength, getting yards after the catch.
  80. Combining toughness with that size and speed, Warren could be a YAC monster in the NFL and perform along the lines of a George Kittle.

Page 4

  1. Tight end – Penn State
  2. The other stud tight end in the first round goes in 14th, making that the first time ever two tight ends have been drafted in the top half of the first round in the draft.

  6. Kenneth Grant has flashes on tape where he looks like Dexter Lawrence. He’s so quick for his size.
  7. However, too often you were left wanting more. That said, Miami badly needed to find help for their interior defensive line.
  8. Defensive tackle – Michigan
  9. Miami goes for an upgrade on the defensive line with big 300-pounder Kenneth Grant heading to the Dolphins with pick 13.
  10. Grant has good movement for a big guy who is a run stuffer but also can bring pressure up the middle – something that the Philadelphia Eagles built a Super Bowl winning defence on last year.
  11. Rob Staton

  14. I love Tyler Booker. He’s a huge, mauling lineman who is a true alpha leader. He’ll set the tone up front and move people. He loves to finish blocks and take it to opponents. He will be a good pro for a long time.
  15. Offensive lineman – Alabama
  16. Jerry Jones and the Cowboys have been unusually quiet in the build-up and instead of making a big flashy pick they;ve gone for an offensive lineman – as they usually do.
  17. Jones looks happy enough in the Dallas war room after picking a lineman that went 371 pass blocks without giving up a sack.
  18. Rob Staton
  19. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  20. The 49ers used to have a loaded defensive line and they bullied opponents. Their fearsome front four turned into a one-man Nick Bosa show.
  21. Mykel Williams has incredible upside but he was inconsistent and injured at Georgia and never really delivered on his potential in college.
  22. Edge – Georgia
  23. Nick Bosa gets a partner in crime with Mykel Williams heading to San Francisco as part of an important draft for the Niners having lost a lot of players in the off season so far.
  24. He’s an explosive edge rusher who will join a traditionally fearsome defensive unit that lost some big players in free agency.
  25. Offensive lineman – Texas
  26. Image source, Getty Images
  27. Kelvin Banks Jr became the starting left tackle during his first season at Texas in 2022.
  28. He remained an integral part of the Longhorns’ offensive line and after his third and final college season he won the annual award for best lineman.
  29. Having gained so much experience at Texas, the 6ft 5in pass protector had been earmarked as a potential NFL starter coming into the draft.
  30. Image source, Getty Images
  31. So we’re 10 picks into the 2025 draft and Shedeur Sanders, the initial favourite to be the first overall pick, is still on the board.
  32. In fact, Cam Ward is the only quarterback to have been selected so far, but how far will Sanders fall?
  33. At least he has been spared the humbling Aaron Rodgers suffered when he was drafted with the 24th pick in 2005.
  34. Sanders has not been invited to the draft so won’t have to endure constant TV shots of him sat waiting in the green room.
  35. Image source, Getty Images
  36. Cam Ward, QB, Tennessee Titans
  37. Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Jacksonville Jaguars (trade with Cleveland)
  38. Abdul Carter, DE, New York Giants
  39. Will Campbell, OL, New England Patriots
  40. Mason Graham, DL, Cleveland Browns (trade with Jacksonville)
  41. Ashton Jeanty, RB, Las Vegas Raiders
  42. Armand Membou, OL, New York Jets
  43. Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Carolina Panthers
  44. Kelvin Banks Jr, OL, New Orleans Saints
  45. Colston Loveland, TE, Chicago Bears
  46. Rob Staton
  47. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  48. Colston Loveland is one of the best players in the draft. He’s an ideal fit in Ben Johnson’s offense and will play the same role as Sam LaPorta in Detroit. He’s a dynamic pass-catching tight end who can be a difference maker.
  49. Tight end – Michigan
  50. Image source, Getty Images
  51. Like a lot of modern-day tight ends, Loveland operates more like a big wide receiver, a very big receiver in fact at six-foot-six but with great speed and an upper body strength that can protect the football.
  52. He made 12 starts in 2023 when the Wolverines won the National Championship, and last year set a Michigan single-season tight end record with 56 catches, 582 yards and five touchdowns.
  53. His blocking will need work, but he looks like he could be a massive possession receiver asset with also that red zone threat that NFL teams crave.
  54. Image source, Getty Images
  55. The 6ft 4in wide receiver was Arizona’s all-time leader in receiving yards and his athleticism and instinctive play stand out.
  56. McMillan is a Mike Evans-esque receiver who can dominate cornerbacks and reel in high balls.
  57. He also played volleyball and basketball and credits his time as a volleyball player for helping him reach the NFL.
  58. “I think it’s a big reason why I’m efficient at what I do as far as jump balls, 50/50 balls, going up to get it. Volleyball plays a huge role in that, for sure,” he told ESPN.
  59. “I tell everybody – and I probably shouldn’t say it – that volleyball is my favorite sport. I probably had the most fun playing it.”
  60. Tight end – Michigan
  61. Plenty of boos from Packers fans as their big rivals Chicago announce their first round pick – which is the first tight end to go off the board in Colston Loveland
  62. The Bears haven’t had a winning record since 2018 but their offence is now stacked with Loveland joining Caleb Williams and his array of receiving weapons.
  63. Rob Staton
  64. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  65. The Saints can move last year’s first round pick Taliese Fuaga back to his natural home at right tackle and plug Kelvin Banks Jr on the left side. He’s good in space and when he gets on the move but there were questions about his balance on contact.
  66. Pick number 10
  67. The Chicago Bears had two of the first nine picks last year, taking Caleb Williams with the first then Rome Odunze, so quarterback and wide receiver aren’t a concern for new head coach Ben Johnson.
  68. The Bears have plenty of other needs, with none a major issue, so they could move in a number of ways with this one.
  69. Offensive tackle – Texas
  70. New head coach Kellen Moore will not have Shedeur Sanders but instead has one of the top offensive linemen left on the board as he starts his rebuild in New Orleans.
  71. The Texas Longhorn Banks will help protect whoever ends up lining up at quarterback for the Saints next season, which remains far from clear.
  72. Pick number nine
  73. With Derek Carr struggling with a shoulder injury, the New Orleans Saints were linked with a quarterback move, in particular Shedeur Sanders.
  74. That chatter has calmed down, though, and the roster new head coach Kellen Moore has inherited needs a lot of work on both sides of the ball so this is anyone’s guess.
  75. Rob Staton
  76. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  77. Tetairoa McMillan divided opinion among draft experts. He isn’t fast or explosive but he can contort his body to make difficult high-pointed grabs and his ball-tracking is excellent.
  78. Quarterback Bryce Young will like the pick but that Carolina defense needed some love.
  79. Wide receiver – Arizona
  80. A bit of a surprise given how bad the Carolina defence was last year as they pick up another receiver for Bryce Young – as they did in the first round last year.
  81. A tall, long receiver, McMillan is a big red zone threat, capable of winning those contested catches with solid, strong hands.
  82. He made 213 catches in his college career for 3,423 yards and 26 touchdowns.

  3. Membou is one of the most explosive offensive linemen to enter the NFL in recent history with a similar testing profile to Tampa Bay star Tristan Wirfs.
  4. He’s a younger player who needs time to develop but the Jets have pumped resources into their O-line and that’s always a wise move.
  5. Pick number eight
  6. The Carolina Panthers weren’t just bad on defence last season, they gave up the most points ever in a season.
  7. They also had the lowest quarterback pressure rate so a premium pass rusher is their priority. After Abdul Carter, Jalon Walker is arguably the best option.
  8. Offensive lineman – Missouri
  9. Image source, Getty Images
  10. Armand Membou stayed in his home state by committing to Missouri, where he became the regular starter at right tackle in his second year.
  11. In his third and final college season, he did not allow a single sack or quarterback hit in 12 games.
  12. Having just turned 21, he is one of the youngest offensive linemen in this year’s draft and is still growing into his 6ft 4in frame.
  13. Although still a little raw, he has demonstrated good movement and maturity, and is seen as having a big upside in terms of potential.
  14. Offensive tackle – Missouri
  15. The Jets pick up right tackle Membou from Missouri – who had a nice combine displaying his strength and just how tough he is to get past.
  16. He started 12 games last season and famously did not give up any sacks or even hits on his QB.
  17. Ashton Jeanty on what he will bring to Las Vegas: “You’ve seen it – the energy, the dance moves.
  18. “I’m ready to go and entertain each and every week.”
  19. The commissioner of the NFL everybody…

  21. Rob Staton
  22. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  23. The player with the best opportunity to be great in this draft, Jeanty runs through contact with ease, has a second gear when he gets into space and you can put the offense on his back.
  24. The Raiders get a brilliant running back who can be Pete Carroll’s next Marshawn Lynch.
  25. NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah on Ashton Jeanty: “He’s very slippery and elusive.
  26. “He’s just a piece of muscle, there’s not a lot of surface to hit on him.
  27. “He’s one of the fun players to watch. so just kick your feet up and enjoy.”
  28. Pick number seven
  29. There is a new regime at the New York Jets too, with head coach Aaron Glenn looking to rebuild his roster after chossing to move on from Aaron Rodgers.
  30. Justin Fields has replaced him as their starting quarterback and the Jets could do with a right tackle, so how about Armand Membou?
  31. Fields would also welcome a playmaker at wide receiver or tight end.
  32. There have been some flash outfits on the red carpet tonight, but Crocs? Really??
  33. Yes, Ashton Jeanty has gone there.
  34. Image source, Getty Images
  35. Running Back – Boise State
  36. Image source, Getty Images
  37. The Heisman Trophy runner-up. Ashton Jeanty ran for 2,601 yards for Boise State last season and is looking to become just the third running back to be chosen in the top 10 of the NFL Draft since 2018 – joining Saquon Barkley and Bijan Robinson.
  38. Many see him as the best overall prospect in the draft, but running back is not usually seen as a massive priority for teams on draft night.
  39. As Saquon Barkley showed last season though, if you get a superstar playmaker in that position it can make a huge difference – and Jeanty certainly has all the ability in the world to wreak havoc in the NFL.
  40. Mason Graham after being drafted by the Cleveland Browns: “I’m going to do everything I can to put Cleveland back on top.
  41. On being a team-mate of Myles Garrett: “It’s such a blessing, he’s a fierce competitor and I want to play with guys like that. He’s the real deal.”
  42. Running back – Boise State
  43. Image source, Getty Images
  44. Ashton Jeanty was pagged as a Raider for a while, until the Jaguars became the favourite to pick him – but perhaps Jacksonville were playing mind games all along.
  45. Anyway, Las Vegas were never going to pass on a superstar playmaker like Jeanty, and despite holes elsewhere, the Raiders went with the ‘best available’ and the Boise State man may just be the biggest talent in the entire draft.
  46. Rob Staton
  47. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  48. I loved Mason Graham’s tape. He’s scrappy and gets off blocks to make plays as a complete defensive tackle.
  49. Last summer there was a feeling he could be the best draft-eligible player. He lacks ideal measurables but he has every chance to be a very good pro.
  50. Pick number six
  51. There is a new regime in place in Sin City, with minority owner Tom Brady having settled in and Pete Carroll returning to the sidelines to become the oldest head coach in NFL history.
  52. His former Seattle quarterback Geno Smith came to Las Vegas during free agency but the Raiders have a host of other needs.
  53. Could it simply be a case of taking the best player left on the board, which is now running back Ashton Jeanty?
  54. Image source, Getty Images
  55. Will Campbell had to hold back the tears as he spoke on stage after being selected by the New England Patriots:
  56. “I’ve worked my entire life to be up here, to be able to get my name called by a franchise like New England. It means everything to me.”
  57. “I’d gonna fight and die to protect them (his team-mates), with everything I’ve got.”
  58. Defensive lineman – Michigan
  59. Image source, Getty Images
  60. Mason Graham was a two-way starter in high school, playing defensive and offensive tackle.
  61. The 21-year-old then committed to Michigan, where he has played solely on the defensive line during his three years, helping the Wolverines become national champions in 2023.
  62. At 6ft 3in and 296lb (134kg), the defensive tackle is deceptively quick to get off the line and disrupt the backfield.
  63. Defensive tackle – Michigan
  64. Image source, Getty Images
  65. The Browns pass on Ashton Jeanty and instead look to strengthen on the defensive line with the tough Wolverine Mason Graham.
  66. Cleveland handed out big money to keep Myles Garrett and will help him out a bit with Graham joining the ranks.
  67. It’s a big deal for a Michigan man to move to Ohio, but if he peforms in the NFL like he did in college that won’t be a problem.
  68. NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah: “Of all the teams in this draft, for me the tackle need for the Patriots was the most glaring.
  69. “They had to go in this direction. They had to address the offensive line, they had no choice.”
  70. Pick number five
  71. With Deshaun Watson set for another lengthy injury lay-off, the Cleveland Browns need a quarterback. But after Cam Ward, they obviously felt like Travis Hunter wasn’t worth a second overall pick so traded down.
  72. During free agency the Browns brought in Kenny Pickett, a first-round pick from 2022, and re-signed veteran Joe Flacco, so they could try to get by with them under centre until next year.
  73. Cleveland managed to convince star Myles Garrett to stay in the off-season so they could have looked to boost their defence by pairing him with another elite pass rusher in Abdul Carter, but trading down saw them miss out on him too.

  1. Offensive lineman – Louisiana State University

  3. At 6ft 6in and weighing 319lb (145kg), Will Campbell was seen as the top offensive lineman in this year’s draft.
  4. After committing to LSU in his home state of Louisiana, Campbell spent three years playing tackle, being named the best blocker in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) last season.
  5. Despite playing tackle in college, the 21-year-old is expected to ultimately be moved inside to guard.
  6. Rob Staton
  7. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  8. I thought Campbell’s 2024 tape was a struggle at times and while he’s athletic, he lacks ideal length and he toiled against pro-ready pass rushers like Arkansas’ Landon Jackson.
  9. The Patriots need to protect quarterback Drake Maye but Campbell isn’t a sure thing.
  10. Offensive tackle – LSU
  11. A no-brainer for the New England Patriots as they pick up some protection for quarterback Drake Maye, who showed some promise last year despite being under all kinds of pressure.
  12. The offensive line was a bit of a mess last season to say the least, but Campbell will hopefully help beef that up a little.
  13. Rob Staton
  14. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  15. The Giants have had to live in a division with Micah Parsons and now they’ll hope they have their own version. Like Parsons, Carter started as a linebacker at Penn State before switching to the edge. He’s lightning as a pass rusher and had an outstanding 2024 season.
  16. Defensive end – Penn State
  17. Image source, Getty Images
  18. The highest-rated full-time defensive player in this year’s draft, Abdul Carter started out as a linebacker at Penn State.
  19. He then switched to defensive end for his third and final college season and established himself as the most impressive pass rusher among this year’s prospects.
  20. The 21-year-old claimed 12 sacks and two forced fumbles from 16 games last season as the Nittany Lions went 13–3 before losing to Notre Dame in the national championship semi-finals.
  21. In just one season playing on the edge, Carter has shown he has the athleticism to succeed in the NFL and is expected to get even better as he gains experience and adds more weight to his 6ft 3in frame.
  22. Pick number four
  23. The New England Patriots aren’t after a quarterback with Drake Maye, last year’s third overall pick, having impressed during his rookie season.
  24. That was despite playing behind arguably last season’s worst offensive line, but the Pats can address that issue now by selecting Will Campbell or perhaps Armand Membou.
  25. Maye could also use some better weapons on offence, so how about running back Ashton Jeanty or either of the top tight ends, Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland?
  26. Travis Hunter, who hails from Florida, on being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars: “I’m super excited, I get to go back home.
  27. “We had no conversations outside of the Combine. I want to cry but I can’t because I’m too excited.”
  28. Edge – Penn State
  29. Image source, Getty Images
  30. The New York Giants decide against a quarterback and instead go for a game-wrecking edge rusher in Abdul Carter.
  31. Big Blue had holes everywhere in the roster after last season, but Carter is seen as one of the biggest sure things in the draft, a monster at hunting down QBs and similar to Micah Parsons.
  32. The war room in Gotham is delighted with that pick. Carter is from Philadelphia but will now focus on hunting down Jalen Hurts when he faces the Super Bowl champion Eagles twice a season in the NFC East.
  33. Pick number three
  34. The New York Giants are also looking for a long-term solution at quarterback and Shedeur Sanders, Jalen Milroe, Jaxson Dart and Tyler Shough have all had private workouts with them.
  35. As a precaution, the Giants brought in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency so perhaps one of the veteran duo could serve as a bridge QB until next year, allowing the Giants to use this pick on boosting their defensive or offensive line.
  36. Can they afford to miss out on Abdul Carter after passing up the chance to draft Micah Parsons in 2021?
  37. The Giants could then pick up a QB with a less valuable pick later on and treat them as a development project.
  38. Cornerback/wide receiver – Colorado
  39. Image source, Getty Images
  40. Travis Hunter was the number one ranked college recruit in 2022 and was persuaded to flip his commitment from Florida State to Jackson State, who were coached by Deion Sanders.
  41. Sanders was the last genuine two-way player in the NFL and has guided Hunter’s development, with both leaving for Colorado in 2023.
  42. Last season Hunter played all 13 of Colorado’s games, claiming four interceptions and 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns. He played 714 (87%) of their offensive snaps and 748 (83%) of their defensive.
  43. The 21-year-old not only became the first player to win the awards for best defensive player and best receiver last year, but he also claimed the Heisman Trophy for best college player overall.
  44. Rob Staton
  45. BBC Radio Sheffield and NFL on 5 Live host
  46. Most evaluators saw two true blue-chip players in the draft in Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter. The Jaguars are moving up and will give Hunter the opportunity to play both receiver and cornerback, mainly because he reportedly told teams he insists on doing both. He’s a talent but can he realistically play both sides of the ball?
  47. Wide receiver/cornerback – Colorado
  48. Image source, Getty Images
  49. It’s a big move to trade up from five to two, and it had to be for a big player – and there’s arguably none bigger than Travis Hunter, who has wowed in college as the best cornerback and best wide receiver around.
  50. Can he play on both offence and defence in the NFL? We’ll find out in Jacksonville, and at Wembley Stadium as well, next season.
  51. And with the Jags trading up, giving up a first rounder next year for him, that’s not just for him to play cornerback, or receiver, they’re banking on him doing both.
  52. NFL reporter Ian Rapoport: “It’s a blockbuster trade. The Jacksonville Jaguars wanted to be bold and they have been bold.”
  53. Image source, Getty Images
  54. Picking a quarterback with the number one overall pick does not yield immediate results, as the rookie records of the last five show.
  55. Of course, if you have the first pick that’s due to being a poor team the year before, but only the Bengals with Joe Burrow will judge that pick a success right now.
  56. And as the Bears now know after last year, you may get your star QB but you have to build the right team around him for them to succeed.
  57. Pick number five traded with Browns for pick two
  58. Last season was a step back for the Jacksonville Jaguars, which resulted in Doug Pederson losing his job as head coach.
  59. New coach Liam Coen has a number of needs to address but after an injury-hit season, quarterback Trevor Lawrence would appreciate some help on offence – either greater protection in the offensive line or a premium weapon for him to pass to.
  60. And after making such a huge trade, it’s surely to go and get Travis Hunter?
  61. Quarterback – Miami
  62. Image source, Getty Images
  63. Cam Ward was a zero-star recruit coming out of high school and only received two scholarship offers.
  64. After two years with the Incarnate Word he transferred to Washington State, then after another two he joined Miami for his fifth and final college season.
  65. The 6ft 2in quarterback helped the Hurricanes to a 10-3 record, throwing for 4,313 passing yards and 39 touchdowns – the most in college football – and was one of the four Heisman Trophy finalists.
  66. The 22-year-old has been compared to Patrick Mahomes for his play-making ability – he can throw from different arm angles and make off-platform plays – and he replaced Shedeur Sanders as the favourite to be the first overall pick in January.
  67. As mentioned – the Jacksonville Jaguars have traded up from five to two after agreeing on a blockbuster deal with the Cleveland Browns.
  68. Jacksonville will send their fifth overall pick, along with their second round and fourth round picks and significantly their first round selection for next year to Cleveland.
  69. The Jags are on the clock!

  72. A year ago Cam Ward was seen as a late rounder, he wasn’t even invited to the Senior Bowl and he reneged on a decision to turn pro to gamble on a big year with the Miami Hurricanes. It’s remarkable that 12 months later he’s turned himself into the first overall pick.
  73. Quarterback – Miami

  75. And there it is – as expected the Tennessee Titans select Miami quarterback Cam Ward to try and lead the revival of the franchise in Nashville.
  76. The Titans had plenty of interest from other teams in trading for the top pick, but they were having none of that, they wanted who they believe will be their franchise QB for years to come.
  77. Just a quick reminder of the line-up so far for tonight’s first round – still no trades to speak of, but rumours of the Jaguars seriously considering trading with the Browns for the second pick….
  • 1. Tennessee Titans
  • 2. Cleveland Browns
  • 3. New York Giants
  • 4. New England Patriots
  • 5. Jacksonville Jaguars
  • 6. Las Vegas Raiders
  • 7. New York Jets
  • 8. Carolina Panthers
  • 9. New Orleans Saints
  • 10. Chicago Bears
  • 11. San Francisco 49ers
  • 12. Dallas Cowboys
  • 13. Miami Dolphins
  • 14. Indianapolis Colts

  2. Right, here we go, the 2025 NFL Draft is officially under way. Wonder who the Titans will pick?

  10. If you’re looking for someone to come into your team and run your defence, Georgia safety Malaki Starks is your man. His college coaches rave about his football intelligence and he’s an incredibly committed individual dedicated to his craft.
  11. On the field he produces a rare ability to make plays from deep. This is a skill reserved for very few players these days, such as Jessie Bates currently with the Atlanta Falcons. It won’t be a surprise if, in two years time, Starks is viewed as the best free safety in the league. His ability to trigger and react to what’s happening in front of him is impressive.

  15. This isn’t a draft class full of stars. Many teams will be accepting they need to find mere starters instead. For that reason, a player like Grey Zabel the North Dakota State offensive lineman could go earlier than people realise.
  16. His pre-draft testing profile matches some of the best players in the league, including Creed Humphrey with the Chiefs. He can play anywhere across the line but his best role is likely guard. He has the best package of athletic upside, consistency and low bust-rate arguably in the whole class.
  17. NFL teams are constantly looking for good lineman. Zabel is a player to watch tonight.

  21. Ole Miss defensive tackle Walter Nolen could be a top-10 pick tonight. Or he could fall out of the first round altogether.
  22. Scouts rave about his talent and potential. He’s been compared to Eagles star Jalen Carter for his ability to wreck games from the interior. However, there are question marks about his consistency and character.
  23. As a consequence, mock drafters have a hard time placing him in this class. There were games last year, such as against Florida, where he looked unstoppable. Philadelphia took a chance on Carter two years ago.
  24. How early will someone be willing to take a chance on Nolen this year?

  28. Ohio State had a loaded roster last year full of stars as they won the College Football National Championship. However, when I spoke to a former NFL GM a few weeks ago, he told me wide receiver Emeka Egbuka was the main man on campus.
  29. He was the player who led by example and who everyone turned to for advice. He won all of the 1v1 basketball games played among team-mates. He was the consistent and productive force as they launched a playoff run. Egbuka is mature, dynamic and reliable. He’ll have a long NFL career and could be taken earlier than people think.
  30. Image source, Getty Images
  31. One of the big questions tonight is where will Shedeur Sanders end up, and for a variety of reasons he’s a divisive figure among many NFL executives.
  32. Some have questioned his attitude and whether having a legend like Deion Sanders as his father has made him too cocky – and some also think that Coach Prime will get involved too much if they draft his son.
  33. So a few teams do not want the media circus that will no doubt come with drafting the Colorado quarterback.
  34. He does have some great qualities though and he can clearly handle the spotlight so could well be a franchise QB capable to leading a team to success in the NFL.
  35. The Giants might well pick him at three, the Saints could be tempted at pick nine and if he’s still there the Steelers are said to have had the best meeting with Sanders at the NFL Combine.
  36. Or could the worries around the baggage he comes with see him slide down even further, or not get picked at all tonight? He is not attending the draft in Green Bay if that is an omen.
  37. Image source, Getty Images
  38. A joint workout involving Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders back in February explains a lot about how they are viewed by NFL scouts and why their draft stock has since gone in different directions.
  39. Ward made the most touchdown passes in college football last season to win two of the most prestigious quarterback awards, while Shedeur Sanders won the other.
  40. They pair engaged in some trash talk during the workout, with Ward dismissing the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award as a “completion percentage award” and told Sanders he went for easy passes to boost his record.
  41. “If I did that, my completion percentage would be 90,” he added. “I throw the ball downfield. You don’t.”
  42. Sanders replied by saying “I do what my team needs me to do to win. If we’ve got to throw screens, I’ll throw screens.”
  43. Ward then insisted he’s the number one quarterback in this draft and mocked Sanders for taking an early drinks break.
  44. Sanders reminded Ward he ‘gets paid to drink’ as part of a sponsorship deal, to which Ward replied: “I don’t need to get paid. Football pays me.”
  45. New York Jets linebacker Jermaine Johnson, 2022 first-round pick (26th overall), speaking to BBC Sport.
  46. “I can see him doing anything he puts his mind to. As time goes, athletes evolve and new heights are reached. It’s corny to say, but records are meant to be broken.
  47. “I’m so excited to see him attempt to do it – as long as whoever picks him is OK to do it – but I think he has every ounce of talent and mindset to be able to do that.”
  48. Image source, Getty Images
  49. Travis Hunter’s father was unable to attend the Heisman Trophy ceremony in December as it came just nine days after he was released from a Florida prison.
  50. Travis Hunter Sr was sentenced to 90 days last September in relation to gun and drug charges.
  51. The 39-year-old is now on a three-year period of probation and has been ordered to complete the first year under home confinement.
  52. And although he was not able to join his son for his Heisman victory, he has been granted permission to attend the draft,, external so will be beside the two-way star in the green room in Green Bay.
  53. Image source, Getty Images
  54. Travis Hunter is pretty in pink in Green Bay tonight and he looks set to be sitting pretty with the Cleveland Browns tipped to pick him second in the draft.
  55. He insists he can play both cornerback and receiver in the NFL, but it will not be as easy as it was in college – and it is not just down to talent, as he obviously has the ability to star on offence and defence.
  56. But the logistics are tough, the days are longer, the players are faster and stronger and the playbooks are thicker in the NFL, and just physically being in meetings and at practice for both offence and defence will be near impossible.
  57. More likely is he will start at one position and have a package of special plays on the other side of the ball to utilise his abundance of skills.
  58. From Travis Kelce to George Kittle and last season Brock Bowers – a dominant tight end can be a game breaker in the NFL, and the success of Bowers in his rookie year last year could mean teams are tempted to make history tonight.
  59. There has never been two tight ends chosen in the first half of the first round of the draft, but many experts have both Tyler Warren and Colston Loveland going inside the top 16 picks tonight.
  60. They both display tremendous speed and skill coupled with size and strength and ability to get yards after the catch – exactly what a modern tight end should be.

  64. The Steelers have a big call to make at 21. Currently Mason Rudolph is the only quarterback on their roster. How committed is Aaron Rodgers to playing for the Steelers in 2025? Is Kirk Cousins a trade option? Neither veteran gets the juices flowing like Shedeur Sanders would.
  65. Head coach Mike Tomlin is said to be a fan of Sanders. This could be an ideal spot for player and team. However, the Steelers also have big needs on the defensive line and at running back. If they don’t take Sanders, he possibly lasts until day two.

  69. The Bears have enjoyed the most impactful off-season so far. Bringing in Ben Johnson as head coach was a masterstroke. They rebuilt their offensive line. Now they can afford to be aggressive, with three picks in the top 50.
  70. Will they trade up for Ashton Jeanty? It’s a tantalising thought. He’d be the ideal foil for quarterback Caleb Williams and in Johnson’s offense, playing behind that revamped line, he could be an immediate star in the NFL.
  71. For me Jeanty is pound-for-pound the best player in the draft. Positional value will put some teams off. Johnson had success as offensive coordinator in Detroit after they spent a high pick on Jahmyr Gibbs. Could they pull off a huge move to get Jeanty tonight? Or could he even last to them with the 10th pick?
  72. Image source, Getty Images
  73. NFL fans just love the draft, with thousands of them packing out the stage outside Lambeau Field.
  74. Why do they love it so much? Well, no matter how bad your team was last year, there’s always hope that selecting a superstar of the future can turn the entire franchise around.
  75. It’s that hope that makes tonight so exciting.

  79. The most interesting team tonight are going to be the Giants. Assuming they don’t take a quarterback with the third pick, they’ll be looking for a route back into the first round. They have to come away with a signal caller.
  80. Furthermore, all of the speculation in the American media is that head coach Brian Daboll prefers Jaxson Dart and not Shedeur Sanders. Could Dart be the second quarterback taken? It might be trending that way.

  83. The Denver Broncos pulled off a surprise in 2010 by trading up to the first round to take someone who wasn’t expected to go until at least the third round.
  84. Although quarterback Tim Tebow had been a success at college, there were doubts over whether he had the technical ability to establish himself in the NFL.
  85. Tebow started most of Denver’s games in 2011 and during a thrilling run he steered them to four comeback wins. During that run ‘Tebowing’ became a thing. A devout Christian, he often knelt on the field to pray in a trademark pose.
  86. But eventually his shortcomings were exposed. That off-season free agent Peyton Manning joined Denver, with whom he won his second Super Bowl in 2015, while Tebow was traded to the New York Jets and was out of the league soon after. He then pursued a baseball career before making a brief, unsuccessful return to the NFL with Jacksonville in 2021 – as a tight end.
  87. Memorable draft moments: 1998
  88. There were no doubts over Randy Moss’ talent in 1998 but there were concerns over his off-field issues.
  89. The Dallas Cowboys were particularly interested in the wide receiver and had a chance to take him at number eight. They passed up on it though, and that made other teams pay heed to red flags.
  90. Moss eventually fell to 21 before the Minnesota Vikings felt he was worth the risk and it paid off handsomely. The Vikings played Dallas in the Thanksgiving game that year, with Moss going into the Cowboys’ house and scoring three touchdowns.
  91. He continued to haunt them throughout his career and he’s now in the Hall of Fame as well as sitting fourth on the all-time list for receiving yards. After winning three Super Bowls in 90s, Dallas didn’t win another play-off game for 12 years.

  97. And those fans are certainly turning up in style.

  100. First pick: Cam Ward seems almost certain to go first off the board to the Tennessee Titans.
  101. Travis Hunter: By consensus the two-way star will be chosen second, but maybe not to Cleveland who currently hold that pick as the Browns are open to trade talks.
  102. Shedeur Sanders: The Colorado QB is either an asset or a problem being Deion Sanders’ son, depending on what team you ask. He could go at three to the Giants, nine to the Saints or 21 to the Steelers – or maybe not get drafted tonight at all!
  103. Ashton Jeanty: A powerhouse running back some believe is the best player in the draft has long been linked with the Raiders, but the Jaguars now look favourites.

  6. From this year’s IPP group, UK pair Dante Barrett and Mapalo Mwansa are eligible for the draft, along with Ireland’s Ross Bolger.

  4. “I know for me it was more excitement – I knew I’d worked my butt off to get there and I knew I was going to be OK with how it played out.
  5. “And I had a pretty good idea I was going to the Jets.”

  7. The draft is divided into seven rounds – the first taking place tonight, rounds two and three on Friday and four to seven on Saturday.
  8. All 32 teams have one pick in each round, going in the reverse order of the previous season’s standings, unless they have agreed trades.
  9. As it stands, no first-round picks have been traded for the 2025 draft so each team will have one pick in this year’s first round.
  10. The Tennessee Titans had last season’s worst record so they will go first with the Super Bowl winners, the Philadelphia Eagles, going last.
