When John Cena turned heel at Elimination Chamber, right after earning a shot at Cody Rhodes and the WWE championship in the main event of WrestleMania 41, he did so, seemingly, at the behest of The Rock. It was just after Rhodes refused his request to be his champion and The Final Boss did the throat slit en route to the big turn.
And then he disappeared.
Not just that, he was hardly mentioned in any of the promos in the immediate aftermath. They did a terrible job of even bothering to explain “The Great One’s” involvement. By the time we got to the bell ringing at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, there was zero word that Rocky would be there for it.
When Travis Scott was the big run-in for the match, it became clear we wouldn’t be getting an appearance from The Rock. Even when Cena won the title for a record breaking 17th time, he didn’t show up and was hardly mentioned on commentary.
“No Rock” quickly started trending on Twitter X. Fans aren’t terribly happy about his failing to make an appearance, even on a night when they got Stone Cold Steve Austin out there to announce the attendance. It sure felt like a missed opportunity.
We are always down to sit back and enjoy the ride he’s taking us on but that’s much harder to do when he doesn’t even show up.
Oh well!
