Novak Djokovic made history again with his semi-final victory at the Miami Open presented by Itau on Friday. By reaching the title match, the Serbian extended his remarkable streak to 20 consecutive seasons of competing in a tour-level final, equalling Roger Federer’s all-time record.
The 37-year-old has also broken a tie of 19 consecutive seasons set by Jimmy Connors, Rafael Nadal, and Gael Monfils. At 37 years old, Djokovic is now level with Federer and he will aim to capture his 100th tour-level title on Sunday against Taylor Fritz or Jakub Mensik.
Most Consecutive Seasons to Reach Tour-Level Final (Open Era)
Djokovic advanced to his maiden championship match in 2006 in Amersfoort, where he defeated Nicolas Massu to lift the trophy. Since then, the Serbian has reached an impressive 141 finals, with a record 60 coming at ATP Masters 1000 level. After his Miami semi-final win against Grigor Dimitrov, the former No. 1 player in the PIF ATP Rankings will play for a record-extending 41st Masters 1000 crown Sunday.
Federer’s own 20-season streak of tour-level finals began in 2000, when he made his first final in Marseille, and concluded with his last final in 2019 in Basel, where he claimed his 103rd title.

Djokovic improved to 49-7 in Miami after increasing his Lexus ATP Head2Head series lead against Dimitrov to 13-1. One win shy of claiming a seventh trophy in Miami, and first since triumphing at Crandon Park in 2016, Djokovic is aiming to break his tie with Andre Agassi for most titles at the Masters 1000 event.
The Serbian’s first triumph at the hard-court event came in 2007, which was also his first Masters 1000 crown. He is 21-1 in Miami after reaching the quarter-finals, with his lone loss coming to his current coach Andy Murray in the 2009 final.
