The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is finally here, with the trailer attracting nearly 1.9 million views in just 11 hours, and the “available now” line at the end overwhelmed fans with joy.
Players are rushing into the game, making it number one on Steam’s Top Seller chart and fourth on the Most Played Games list, following three free-to-play multiplayer titles. One topic that is naturally raised almost simultaneously with the game itself is the mods — they are an important part of this 2006 RPG, and there are 32.4k mods for Oblivion on Nexus alone.
Among them, there are official tools offered by Bethesda to support the modding community, like the Official Oblivion Construction Set, which allows players to edit and create content for the original game.
However, Bethesda’s stance on the mods for remastered is clear and a bit unusual. On the FAQ page, when asked if Oblivion Remastered would support mods, their answer might sound too unsympathetic: “Mods are not supported.”
Despite the statement, modders resemble rebellious, clever kids who always find ways to pursue their interests despite teachers’ warnings and have managed to allow the community to enjoy their creations. The list of available mods now on Nexus has 72 items, up from 63 since I started writing.
