Overnight storms cause damage in Paragould

PARAGOULD, Ark. — Overnight storms have caused severe city-wide damage in Paragould, Arkansas.

Paragould Mayor Josh Agee said that initially, 5,700 utility customers lost power. As of late Saturday morning, all but 300 customers have power.

All power is expected to be restored before dark.

Mayor Agee also said 161 homes had sustained major or significant damage.

In a Facebook Live, Sheriff Brad Snyder of Greene County said that a lot of heavy damage occurred in the city, including in the downtown area.

He said that at the time of the social media post, one serious injury had been reported and a few other minor injuries had occurred too.

Crews were sent out to multiple locations and noticed power lines down, poles snapped in half and a combine that was pushed out into the middle of the road due to the wind.

Structural damage was also reported in the county, particularly in Paragould.

Sheriff Snyder asked residents to avoid being out driving unless absolutely necessary because it could make it difficult for crews to get around. He also mentioned the potential safety risks of being out on the road during the storm.

He also informed residents to not go to affected areas due to the potential risks of gas leaks and debris in the roadways.
