Grammy-winning musician Lil Nas X recently revealed he had lost control of one side of his face.
The rapper and pop singer posted a video to Instagram Monday detailing his health struggle.
“This is me doing a full smile right now by the way,” he said in the video. “Bro, I can’t even laugh right.”
The 26-year-old pop star, born Montero Lamar Hill, did not disclose the cause of his condition, causing fans and X (formerly Twitter) users to speculate the COVID vaccine being linked to Bell’s Palsy— a nerve condition that causes paralysis to part of the face. Some studies, including this one reported by the CDC last year, show facial palsy as a rare side effect of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Fans also suggested the “Old Town Road” singer may have been dealing with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes facial weakness or paralysis. Fellow pop star Justin Bieber was forced to cancel his world tour in 2022 after contracting the syndrome.
Lil Nas X did seem to be in good spirits as he told fans that he was “OK” and they should “stop being sad,” in a follow up post on his Instagram story Monday night.
He shared that he was recovering but still could not fully blink his right eye, in a story Tuesday morning.
The Georgia native rose to fame after releasing his smash country-rap hit “Old Town Road” in 2018 before featuring Billy Ray Cyrus on the song’s remix in 2019, which won two Grammys. Lil Nas X is currently preparing to release his second studio album this summer.
